Tiffany Haddish, Set To Star in Female-Driven Reboot of ‘Jump Street’

According to reports, Tiffany Haddish is in talks with Sony to star in a reboot of the Jump Street franchise.

The upcoming spin-off is said to feature an all-female leading cast.

via Complex:

2012’s 21 Jump Street, the first film in the recent iteration of the series, was a reimagining of the late ’80’s police procedural of the same name. The action-comedy starred Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as undercover cops posing as high school students looking to bust a drug ring. The film was widely praised, scoring over $200 million at the box office and receiving a sequel two years later. 22 Jump Street became even more successful than its predecessor, as it went on to earn $331 million worldwide.

The premise of the all-female reboot would set Haddish as an undercover cop, but posing as the mother of a child also entering a school. Sources point to Awkwafina as being high on the list of names considered for the role of the student. Awkwafina’s stellar performances in this year’s hit films Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean’s 8 proved her to be a highly talented actress, so it is no surprise if she is in talks for the role.

Haddish has demonstrated her power as a comedic force in film, as the 2017 hit Girls Trip amassed over $140 million worldwide. In addition, her performance alongside Kevin Hart in Night School would propel the film to achieving the highest opening for a comedy this year.

Go Tiffany! She Ready!

‘Black Panther’ Actor Winston Duke Set To Play Kimbo Slice in Biopic

‘Black Panther’ breakout star Winston Duke is set to take on the role of MMA legend Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in ‘Backyard Legend.’

via Deadline:

White Boy Rick scribe Andy Weiss is writing the screenplay about the Bahamian-born backyard brawler who rose from homelessness to mixed martial arts fame after his brutal backyard fights drew a huge YouTube audience. Kimbo Slice died suddenly in June 2016 at 42 from heart failure and a liver mass. Though he battled high blood pressure for years, Kimbo Slice insisted on boxing months before his death, winning a three-round heavyweight match against Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris at Bellator 149 in Houston. Before dying Kimbo Slice was scheduled to fight James Thompson in the main event Bellator 158 despite his family’s mixed emotions. They knew his health was ailing given his lack of energy in the Dada 5000 fight.

Duke and Michael Imber, Kimbo’s longtime friend, manager and employer, who will be prominently depicted in the picture (the role has yet to be cast), will also serve as EPs.

Jones says, “It’s a rich and layered tale about this man’s incredible journey from a poor neighborhood in Miami to becoming a worldwide phenomenon. We are ecstatic that Winston has decided to take on this both physically and emotionally challenging role. We simply could not find a better Kimbo!”

Duke adds “I’m looking forward to exploring Kimbo’s story and interrogating the expectations society places on men like him who are their own special breed of hero.”

Jones produced George Gallo’s latest movie Bigger, which Andy Weiss also co-penned, about fitness gurus the Weider brothers. Jones is also producing Gallo’s upcoming political thriller Covet.

Winston truly fits the part for the role!

Steven Spielberg Doesn’t Think Netflix Movies Deserve Oscars

Since Netflix began distributing movies, the industry has been rife with contention about whether such films deserve the same recognition as traditional, theatrically released films, particularly when it comes to the Academy Awards.

Via Variety:

Evidently, legendary director Steven Spielberg is firmly of the mind that they do not. “Once you commit to a television format, you’re a TV movie,” he told ITV News. “You certainly, if it’s a good show, deserve an Emmy, but not an Oscar. I don’t believe films that are just given token qualifications in a couple of theaters for less than a week should qualify for the Academy Award nomination.”

Netflix recently started gaining awards recognition for films like Dee Rees’ “Mudbound,” which received a one-week theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles, and Ava DuVernay’s “13th,” which did not release in theaters and was nominated for best documentary feature at the 2016 Academy Awards.

“Dunkirk” director Christopher Nolan has also weighed in on Netflix, calling the streaming giant’s release plans “bizarre” and “mindless.” He later apologized to chief content officer Ted Sarandos, however, calling his remarks “undiplomatic.”

The controversy has also spread to question the place of Netflix films at festivals, with the premiere of Netflix’s “Okja” at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival being met with boos as the Netflix logo displayed on the screen. Cannes established a rule after last year’s festival that in the future, any films that are selected for competition must also commit to a theatrical distribution.

In a recent interview with Variety, Cannes director Thierry Fremaux said that Netflix and Amazon do represent “something important,” and that “we will eventually come up with a good agreement. Because in order for a film to become part of history, it must go through theaters, box office, the critics, the passion of cinephiles, awards campaigns, books, directories, filmographies. All this is part of a tradition on which the history of film is based.”

‘Black Panther’ Is Officially the Highest-Grossing Superhero Movie of All-Time

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther has become the highest-grossing superhero film of all time in the United States.

via THR:

The Disney and Marvel release achieved the milestone on Saturday after passing up fellow Marvel title The Avengers, which grossed $623.4 million in 2012. To boot, Black Panther is only one of seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically (it currently ranks No. 6 on the list).

Black Panther has shattered numerous milestones since opening in theaters on Feb. 16.

Globally, the film has earned north of $1.2 billion to date. By the end of Sunday, it will leap past Iron Man 3 ($1.214 billion) to become the third-biggest comic book adaptation behind The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion).

The movie, which cost $200 million to make before marketing, was a bold move on the part of Disney and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige.

Black Panther is unprecedented in being a big-budget studio tentpole featuring a virtually all-black https://youtu.be/QwievZ1Tx-8cast. Chadwick Boseman stars as T’Challa/Black Panther alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.

Don’t expect the ‘Black Panther’ hype to die down anytime soon — especially considering T’Challa will be appearing again next month when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters!

Starrdom100’s ‘Bright’ Review: If You Love Fantasy Then It’s Worth Watching!

Will Smith, Joel Edgerton

Bright, is about an alternate present day, humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time. Two police officers, one a human, the other an orc, embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which, in the wrong hands, could destroy everything. The movie released today, December 22 on Netflix, created on a 90 million budget, and of course some bad reviews about the movie instantly filled media sites.

The movie was directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) and stars Will Smith (Ward, a human) and  Joel Edgerton (Jakoby, an orc). Critics have claimed the movie to be a waste however after watching the movie I have discovered a very opposite look at the movie.

For one, I love the whole idea of fantasy mixed with action and this sci-fi thriller was able to hold my attention. Seeing Will Smith in this role reminded me of him in the popular movie, “Men In Black” where he played a police officer who joins a secret organization that polices and monitors extraterrestrial interactions on Earth. Here he is yet again in a similar role yet in a world where all of these creatures from the fantasy world we have read about in books, exist.

The start of the movie reminds me of the opening to the film, Independence Day where Smith is seen greeting his family, and then there is a crazy scene where he has to kill a fairy. I will admit there are some odd parts in the script but it just makes for a few good laughs along the way. The partnership between Smith and Edgerton is quite amusing and watching them interact as they discover that they are now destined to fulfill a long awaited prophecy is quite interesting.  Honestly you would have to love fantasy and enjoy how the director brings this movie into a modern day action thriller.

I saw all the bad reviews and I had to check this movie out for myself to see why it was getting so many bad reviews. I’m glad that I watched the movie.

The movie also displayed some strong messages, where you see the cruel treatment towards the orc played by Joel Edgerton, who decides to become a police officer. To me, it displayed the harsh reality of racism today in the workforce when you are different from others. The orcs in the movie are considered to be corrupt and bad guys and there is even a scene where the police are seen beating a bunch of orcs and Smith ask’s him whether he is an orc or an officer. Makes you think of what some of a different race have to deal with on today’s police force or society period.  The elves are a bunch of rich fancy people with nice cars living in a separate division from the others, so go figure on who would be presumed as the elves in our world today.  The fairies are far from anything special because people want them killed as if they are the rodents of the society. Sorry Tinker Bell fans because the fairies are not the good guys or gals in this movie.

Yet with all of the crazy plots of the movie, you manage to see two officers set aside their differences and come together to do something positive for the world. They also learn more about themselves and their purpose through near death experiences and the discovery of a magic they never knew existed.

Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are hilarious in the movie, and regardless of a few twists in the storyline that take it away from being perfect in the eyes of major critics, I believe the message was never to display a perfect movie because the world they reside in is far from perfect. It’s interesting, it is fantasy, and it gets five stars in my book and I’m looking forward to a sequel from Netflix, which sources state that one has already been ordered.

So go watch the movie & enjoy!

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle In Theaters For Christmas Starring Kevin Hart, The Rock & More!

Image result for jumanji

The movie we all grew up on is back and this time it’s being told with a bit of a twist. Of course it’s not like the original one we remember with the late star, Robin Williams, but it is quite interesting. I would like to think that having stars such as Kevin Hart, The Rock, Jack Black, Nick Jonas and others help to make the movie worth watching.

The movie tells the story of four high school kids  who discover an old video game console, and are drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.

The movie is set to release just in time for Christmas on December 20, 2017.

BET Sets ‘The Bobby Brown Story’ For Fall 2018 With Woody McClain Back In The Role of Bobby Brown!

Are we not in love enough with Woody McClain? He is officially the new Bobby and I’m loving it because he is an amazing actor. I can’t see nobody else playing Bobby Brown other than Woody McClain, so excellent decision by BET network. The actor, who played the R&B/pop singer in BET’s miniseries The New Edition Story, has signed to repeat his role in the network’s two-part followup, The Bobby Brown Story. Let me go on record to say that Woody has to be Bobby for every movie from now on that has something to do with the story of Bobby Brown! #WeLoveYouNewBobby

The movie is written by Abdul Williams and executive produced by Jesse Collins. The Bobby Brown Story will pick up where the New Edition mini series left off at. It will showcase the talented but troubled singer’s exit from the popular 80’s boy band on  through his solo career, his affair with Janet Jackson and tabloid-fodder marriage to pop icon Whitney Houston.  Covering thirty years of Brown’s life, the new project follows his story from the hard streets of Roxbury, where he turned to a life of drug dealing before being given the chance to prove himself as a solo artist. BET said The Bobby Brown Story also will be a story about redemption. Through sobriety, the singer learns to be a better man, husband and father. He even finds love again by remarrying in 2012. The casting for the movie is still under way for the other key players in The Bobby Brown Story, including Houston, Bobbi Kristina, Jackson, Teddy Riley, L.A. Reid, Babyface and others. McClain is repped by Henderson Represents, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.

For those who don’t know, Woody McClain was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and raised in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Los Angeles in 2012 to pursue a career as a professional dancer. So of course it makes sense why he was able to nail those legendary Bobby Brown moves in the movie. He has since performed with numerous artists including Chris Brown and Fifth Harmony. After excelling in his career as a professional dancer, he began creating original social media content and noticed very quickly that he had a gift for making people laugh.

Woody also signed with Kevin Hart’s production company, ‘HartBeat Digital’, in December 2015 to produce content after his version of Hart’s “Permission to Cuss” skit went viral and caught Hart’s attention. Woody’s first venture into acting proved incredibly successful when he was sent to audition for BET’s The New Edition Story and booked the lead role, playing Bobby Brown. He will also be seen on the big screen in Canal Street playing “MayMay,” set to release in February 2018. His upcoming projects also include a role in USA’s series “Unsolved,” which is currently in production. Alongside his acting, Woody is currently executive producing his own creation titled Stories with Kev. He has teamed up with Kevin Hart for a streaming series in which he plays Kevin, based on Hart’s most iconic stories and stand-up bits. New episodes release every Friday on Hart’s #1-rated streaming video service, “Laugh Out Loud.”

2018 is going to be one amazing year for the handsome young actor and I’m grabbing my kettle flavored popcorn to tune in for every role!

Here’s The Official Cast of the 2019 Lion King Movie, Including Beyoncé as Nala

Image result for the lion king 2019

The Lion King is getting a reboot and the film’s trailer is amazing!

The movie comes from the same producers of The Jungle Book. I’m excited and I can’t wait to check out the new movie! The cast of the 2019 live-action Lion King film, which has surfaced in bits and whispers over the past few months, was finally made whole Wednesday night. Check out the Trailer Below!

It’s an extremely well-put-together ensemble. I’d even go as far to say this is one of only a very few combinations of casting choices that could convince me to watch another Lion King movie; I along with many others remember when the original movie came out and I have loved it every since. Standouts among the cast include Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala (confirming rumors that have been circulating since April), and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. I’m also happy to see John Oliver play a juicy and entirely appropriate role while he waits in the wings to portray Steve Mnuchin. Donald Glover and James Earl Jones were among those cast earlier this year, but it can’t hurt to be reminded how good this should all turn out.  If there is to be singing from Simba though, I’m going to be listening close because the amazing voice of Jason Weaver’s in the original one is still ringing in our heads. However I am expecting the movie theaters to be packed for this movie. Disney and it’s producers can guarantee to break a record in the theaters when it comes out!

The full cast, per Disney, is below:

The film is set to be released July 19, 2019.
