Normani Kordei is a singer originally from Atlanta, Georgia who is a member of the girl group, Fifth Harmony.
Her sweet and humble personality adds to why she has remained such a successful performer in recent years. Kordei has been singing and dancing since the age of four and although she has had an early start in the field of music, she doesn’t allow that to steal away from her ability to remain humble in the midst of all the excitement and success. Kontrol truly enjoyed discovering more about the life of the young singer and was excited to find out that she will be appearing on the hit TV series, ‘Dancing With the Stars.’
“Dancing with the Stars has been an incredible experience. Honestly I feel like I have grown in the last three weeks. I really have the best partner and he has been really encouraging me, and allowing me to see the beauty in me and what I have to offer. Growing up, I didn’t really believe in myself the most, especially since I started out at such a young age. Having people judge you in every little thing you do, even as a teenager and experiencing life for itself can be tough. He’s helping me to realize that it’s okay to be vulnerable, like don’t keep it all to yourself, so I really thank him for that, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of the season with him. The cast has really become a family and learning all of the dances and genres has really been cool.”
The young singer has been very busy working between the show and on Fifth Harmony’s Global tour. “We just wrapped up our Asian tour, it was about a three week run and it was really amazing. We’re really grateful and blessed to be able to travel to these places that we would have never had the opportunity to see if it weren’t for each other. It’s just really great to be able to thank our fans in person because we talk to them a lot over social media. We have a real personal connection with them and we made a bunch of memories!”
Being part of such an amazing group comes with having the knowledge to know what it takes to remain successful. Normani shared with us what she felt has helped in making Fifth Harmony so successful thus far. “I just believe that everything happens for a reason, and I really do give credit to God and all the glory for five girls from different walks of life
coming together. It’s just been a journey and it’s cool to see the ups and downs that we have been through because it’s just part of our story. Whether it be good or bad, it just makes up all the parts that Fifth Harmony is.”
. You can catch the rest of Normani’s amazing interview in Kontrol Magazine’s 8th Anniversary Issue, Women In Music, in Barnes & Noble nationwide this summer!
The Prince Of R&B ‘Sammie’ is Back with a New Music Video for his single, ‘Better’.
Sammie just dropped the official music video today for his single, ‘Better’. For many who were wondering where Sammie was and what he was doing, you should know that he has still been at it with his music. Sammie is back for good and of course better than ever for his fans. The soulful singer has always been able to find the right words to say in every verse of his songs, and his single ‘Better’ is definitely a reflection of his love for the ladies!
Sammie is serving up the love and passion through his vocals in the video, and letting the ladies know that you deserve better. This is a single that a lot of women need to hear today because of all the physical abuse and verbal abuse that so many are dealing with, and it’s time you knew that you deserve better!
Now I’m sure many of us ladies would love for Sammie to be our ‘Better’ but since that’s not possible, we can rock out to the firm facts that he is pointing out in the video, that you really deserve a man who can give you more love than heartache and disappointments!
We need more music in the field that supports us as women, and lets us know that we are loved and that we are truly worthy of better than what we allow ourselves to accept. Sammie has always been one to remind the ladies of their worth and value. I absolutely love that his music is a reflection of who he is and he has never changed up on his fans when it came down to his music.
The single, ‘Better’, is the third hot track off of his “I’m Him’ EP. Sammie has been working hard as an Independent Artist and we couldn’t be more proud of him. In a recent interview with Starrdom100, he revealed the difference between him and most performers today in the R&B genre of music, stating that,
“It’s almost seen as being weak if you show love and compassion….I don’t know when love became forbidden, but that’s where R&B derived from. Because in love there is pain, pleasure, there’s mistakes, there’s monogamy, there’s so much content in love. Auto tune gave rappers the ability to rap with melody, and it kind of tricked my industry peers to do the same. That’s when the music industry for R&B derailed. You can’t bash women…it’s almost like R&B singers don’t like women anymore and that’s kind of crazy!” We always did it for the ladies, I never got lost in that, and I always felt they were going the wrong way, and as long as I stayed right where I’m at, I would be one of the ones to resurrect R&B and save it.”
We can definitely agree that he is not only a man for the ladies, but is naturally gifted when it comes to singing. He recently proved that he didn’t need auto tune to help him perform well for his fans! Sammie posted to Instagram recently a video of him singing with the caption that read, “No #autotune needed”.
Sammie added, “Hey man, if you can’t hit the note, keep practicing.” Is Sammie throwing some shade here? Well his vocals speak for themselves so he is entitled to show off for the fans!
MUSIQ SOULCHILD’S NEW STUDIO ALBUM TO BE RELEASED THIS SUMMER!
Musiq Soulchild is a Hip-Hop soul artist that was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He built a reputation for being musically gifted, beat boxing for MC’s, free styling on the open mic circuit or just performing acappella for strangers on the streets.
Deeply inspired by the R&B/Soul sound of the 70’s he uses the name “Soulchild” as a way to show respect and admiration to his biggest musical influences such as Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and many others. In April 2016 he released his 7th studio album entitled “Life On Earth” leading with the new hit single “I Do”. The album peaked at #2 on Billboard R&B album charts and # 3 on the Top Hip-Hop R&B album charts. He has received awards from Billboard, BET, ASCAP, BMI, and Soul Train. (musiqsoulchild.com)
“Love, there’s so many things I’ve got to tell you, but I’m afraid I don’t know how, cause there’s a possibility that you’ll look at me differently, Love”….Okay sorry I went back to a moment in time when R&B music was still sensual. His music tends to do that to you, and many of us have probably rehearsed the lyrics to his songs such as this one over the years. Now we can get ready to check out some new music from the R&B Artist!
(April 3, 2017) — Grammy nominated R&B singer/songwriter Musiq Soulchild releases his new single “Start Over” today on SoulStar Music Company / eOne Music. This handsome delightful charmer has not only mastered the gift of capturing hearts through media, but has proven himself to be the definition of never giving up on your dreams. Surviving the busy lifestyle of New York is a struggle for anyone who doesn’t have the connections needed for success. Hassell knew at a young age that anything you wished to obtain meant hard work, dedication towards what you desire, and preparation. Jeremy Hassell gained this level of determination from his big brother who he stated taught him the drive he needed to obtain anything that he put his mind to.
“I remember trying out for the basketball team and I didn’t make the team. I was sitting at home playing video games and my brother walks in. I tell him that I didn’t make the team. He states it’s because you were not good enough. My brother made me practice 365 days on my basketball skills and the following year I made the team.”
Hassell amazingly crazy personality, led to a female friend in London suggesting that he should be on television. The beautiful woman as Hassell called her advised him to submit a tape to MTV. It was after going through a casting for the Real World, that Jeremy realized although he didn’t make the cut, this was definitely something he wanted to make a career out of.
He knew that in order to obtain the career he desired, meant utilizing a strategy that would place him right in front of the producers of MTV!
“I started waiting tables, and I said let me get a job at a restaurant where I know all the MTV Producers go too, so they’ll see me and I’ll be in their mind.”
Well the strategy worked because Hassell later received a call from MTV asking him to come in for a special. The special to his surprise consisted of his first interview with the well-known Pop Star, Madonna!
Despite the few opportunities here and there to work on set when needed, Hassell continued to wait tables while planning a way to fully be able to live out his dream.
Jeremy was determined to grab the attention of MTV, so he began hosting every event in New York City for free to get his name out there. This proved that if you truly want something bad enough, then you will do what it takes to obtain it.
“I realized that in order to be great, you have to put the work in”, stated Hassell during the interview.
His determination created a buzz throughout New York City!
That buzz led to him gaining a regular spot on the television network known as FUSE. The exposure on set with FUSE, unbeknownst to Hassell was being viewed by producers at MTV! This led to him being offered his own show on MTV 2!
It’s not easy getting on the road to success and Hassell shared some very positive advice about the entertainment industry.
“If you choose to do entertainment or if the entertainment world chooses you; you have to accept all that comes with it. You’re not always going to get exactly what you want. But, what you will get if you go after it, is the experience to become the best version of yourself through all the highs and lows.”
Hassell went on to say that by telling his life journey and experiences, he wants to show people that it’s possible!
“Whatever you want is possible but it’s all about how you go about it.”
The determination he showcases is an inspiration to all who refuse to give up on their dreams. His experience has made him all the more grateful and delightful to all who encounter him.
“Every day I still wake up and thank God for the opportunities I have been given.”
With his electric personality, amazing energy and ability to brighten up any situation, there is nothing he can’t achieve! “Right now I’m in a better place and I feel like I’m a Stronger Woman”
Actress Sara Stokes, is a woman truly on the rise in life despite her mishaps. You probably know her best from MTV’s extremely successful reality show ‘Making The Band 2’ in 2002, and now in the hit television series ‘From The Bottom Up,’ which is a collaboration by executive producer Queen Latifah and creator Nicci Gilbert. Throughout the years, Sara has managed to keep herself quite busy with running marathons, getting her aesthetics license, acting in numerous movies, modeling, writing her biography, and raising her three beautiful children. Recently, Sara Stokes returned by making her second appearance on the show in Season 2 of BET’s reality series, ‘From The Bottom Up’, scheduled to air on Saturday, October 29 at 10p/9C. ‘From The Bottom Up’ is a six-episode docu-series following the journey of five women striving to change their lives, rebuild their families and live their dreams after falling from grace. Sara Stokes has been through a lot and took the time to sit down with Kontrol to share how she has continued to rise above it all in her career despite the negatives.
The television series ‘From The Bottom Up’ has really kept thousands of viewers on edge as it took us on a different path in reality TV by showcasing the harsh reality of being up one minute in life and down the next. For those that have been excited and patiently waiting to see what Sara Stokes is going to highlight for us this season, she gives us a little insight as to what we can expect to see and experience from her.
“I’m so excited, because the last season we left off with everyone showing what their bottom was and mines was super crazy because I was just coming out of jail and the cameras were right there. It was just so surreal. We kind of left with me rekindling things with my children, my family and doing the single “Sneak Peek” featuring BABS which is currently on ITunes, and now you guys are sitting back like okay what now? So this season is going to be more closure for me. You know I’m very transparent and honest because to me I feel like if things are going crazy in life and other stuff is surfacing and you are like what is happening here? Then maybe you need to get some closure and some counseling and just really find out what’s going on. So right now I’m in a better place and I feel like I’m a stronger woman and you’re definitely going to see a lot of self-healing in this season.”
Sara released her first single this summer titled, “Sneak Peek”, which featured former group member BABS (Making The Band 2). The hot single is currently available on ITunes for purchase. Later this year Sara plans to release an EP with all new music. The future for Sara looks very bright these days and we couldn’t help but ask what led to the inspiration behind one of her latest singles entitled, “Fragile Hearts”. The title itself, symbolizes such a powerful meaning, and is clear to be a representation of something that not just women can relate to, but something that everyone can say at some point in life may have discovered themselves, in a fragile state when it comes to matters of the heart.
“I picked out this track because it just really spoke to me. You know as an artist when you hear something, you’re like okay that’s it! Eric Campbell who wrote the song, I was actually with him a long time ago about 5 years and all of a sudden I was like let me call Eric and see what’s up, and of course he knows my story and everything I went through so I just started telling him from me being young, all the way up to older and letting him know what was going on and he just turned that into a song! I was like man you have captured my life in one song, it was amazing. It’s one of those songs that’s going to pull at your heart, it’s captivating and it is on ITunes.”
“I feel I have grown so much and I’m not where I was 10 or even 5 years ago. I feel like such a changed woman. I’m in a better place and I’m stronger. I’m figuring out life because I don’t feel as if anybody ever has it all together. I’m just showing the world that no matter what your bottom is, you can come out of it and you can still keep it moving and you can rise up and still conquer your dreams or whatever else may be. Even if it’s just being with your family and rekindling your relationship. Whatever your bottom was, you can come up!”
Music has truly been a highlight in the career path for the talented Sara Stokes and with the opportunity to come in as a television star on such a memorable TV hit series on MTV back in 2002, we couldn’t help but wonder if that appearance on the show, “Making The Band 2” lead to opening the doors in some way for her to successfully gain that leap into her music career.
“Well it influenced me a lot because it was the biggest show on MTV at that time. We made history with that show, having 3 seasons, and being around Diddy was like Wow I’m actually around somebody that I admire, listened to his music and looked up to him, and you know to be working with somebody so driven and smart and just crazy with the promoting side and business side was amazing. So I took that, watched how he did that and I took it in. Obviously til this day people still remember “Making the Band’. That right there was a definite bonus for me and the only thing that I feel like was a hindrance was the reality show fame. A lot of people felt like Oh she’s just a reality show individual, that’s all she is and she really is not a singer or have any other real talents, (laughing) and its plenty of talent over this way! But also that can be a plus to be on a reality show because that’s like the best promotion ever so it’s got its ups and its downs.”
Stokes added that she still remains close in touch with former members from the show such as Dylan and former member BABS, who is featured on her single “Sneak Peeks”. With so much progress occurring in her life since the show, she has been blessed greatly to appear on ‘From The Bottom Up’. Sara spoke briefly on how she felt about being given the opportunity to work on the show with Nicci Gilbert.
“Nicci is just a longtime friend of mine, I worked with her a long time ago, probably more than 10 years ago and you know it just came back around where I was at a different time in my life and I was pretty much all over the place. A year went by and you just have that down season and she just happened to be doing a show. She was the creator of the show and my PR that I was working with Kenneth Robinson and Regina Daniels just spoke my name to her and she was like “Sara, Oh I love Sara”. Then you know TMZ plastered all over that I was in jail and it was just a blessing in disguise.”
“So even out of the dark there was light. The show was really based about real healing and showing women at their lowest. These were women who use to be in the lime light and were losing everything…to me it’s the best thing to show people, that you can still make it and you can still come up. I felt like this was a God given show to express to people that we all go through some junk but what are you going to do about it? You either going to stay down or you gone get up!”
Every person in life has been through a moment where they have been down and as Stokes stated we all must make a decision as to whether you will rise above it or let it get the best of you. Sara has truly found ways to stay above the darts that life has tossed her way and has some positive advice for any woman that has ever been down in life or at that bottom.
“I would say that you really have to get to the root of the problem while you are at that bottom you know. I feel like that was what I was missing while I was at that bottom. I felt like God had stopped me in my tracks and said the way you are going isn’t going to be good. While at the bottom, you need to realize what’s going on in your life and heal some things that have happened early on in life that may be surfacing. It’s just time to grow up some more because you don’t want to stay stagnant in the same thing…you want to be better. So I feel like you got to get that self-healing because it can be something that went on back in the day that you never got healing for. Also get counseling because so many think in the black community that it means you’re psychotic if you see a therapist. No that’s not the case…this is somebody that can structure your life who is not judging you and help you rise up from that state”.
Stokes feels that her children have been a true inspiration in helping mold her into the woman she is today. “I feel like it made me become more grown, and more wiser”. Sara has not allowed any of the negatives in her life to break her down nor stop her from continuing to pursue projects and plans to reveal a lot of her life in the latest season of, “From The Bottom Up”.
“I feel like it’s my time to speak my voice. Not just let the world say “Oh she’s crazy, she has done this and that”, and it’s over for her….no I really get to let them know through my own words…and that’s what I love so much. They can see who the real Sara Stokes is, from my family and everything I went through. It’s going to be some really big surprises on this show.”
“I never look at anything as if this is the worse and I might as well lay down and die, no I’m still here and as long as I keep fighting to get back up, then I’m going to be alright. The stuff in my past, made me who I am today.”
Be sure to keep up with Sara Stokes by tuning in to the second season premiere of, “From The Bottom Up” on Saturday, October 29,10p/9C. You can also check out her latest single, “Fragile Hearts” available now on ITUNES for purchase. Sara also has her own label, New Life Entertainment which she has been working on independently and its fire along. You can also check out her radio show on Playboy along with the release of her beauty book and skincare line! Sara Stokes is truly a woman on the move and we can’t help but expect greatness from her.
“I would like to just be known for making people laugh, helping people escape their everyday lives” -Taylor Spreitler
Taylor Spreitler is a talented young actress/model who is staying positive and exploring new ventures in her acting career. Spreitler has been quite busy this year with her role on the hit television comedy, “Kevin Can Wait” and now looks forward to her role in the upcoming horror film, “Amityville: The Awakening”. The young actress who was pretty much laidback during the interview, displayed her southern charm by telling us that she is simply into making others laugh and enjoying life! You can definitely tell that she is calm and confident about her career and making sure to enjoy every moment without stressing.
Kontrol had the opportunity to sit down and get to know more about Taylor Spreitler and what the actress has in store for the upcoming year.
It’s not often that any young woman can say they had the chance to star on the popular soap opera “Days of Our Lives”. For many of us who sat home and watched the soaps with our parents and grandparents, it was about the closest we would ever get to the actual set. We asked Taylor what the experience was like for her to star on such a popular television series.
“It was great, the fans were amazing! We would have these huge Days of Our Lives events where people would come that had started watching it with their grandparents and that was something that would last for generations. It was awesome!”
The multi-talented actress has definitely had a promising year and we were curious to know what projects fans could be sure to keep up with her in for the upcoming year.
“Well, ‘Kevin Can Wait’ is airing now up until early next year….I also have a movie called ‘Amityville the Awakening’ that is coming out in January.
In the comedy television series, ‘Kevin Can Wait’, Taylor plays the daughter (Kendra Gable) of Actor/Comedian Kevin James. The show is about (Kevin Gable), a newly retired police officer who looks forward to spending more quality time with his wife and three kids only to discover he faces much tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets. The show airs every Monday on the CBS network at 8/7c.
Horror fans all over can definitely get excited about Taylor’s upcoming role in the seventeenth installment of the Amityville saga, “Amityville: The Awakening”.
The movie depicts that when some footage dating back to 1976 is discovered, the case of the haunted house in Amityville is reopened. The film is scheduled to be released on January 6, 2017. Spreitler who plays a friend to the character Bella in the movie briefly expounded on the excitement of working on the set of the popular horror film.
“It was a lot of fun, I got to work with amazing people so it wasn’t really like work. I had a lot of fun shooting it and I’m just excited for people to be able to see it finally!”
With the actress starring in hit television series, we know that mainly every actor/actress has definitely made a list of some ideal actors who they would love to work beside. Spreitler happily responded, “I’ve been lucky on the show, ‘Kevin Can Wait’, with the people that I’ve worked with like Kevin James and Ray Romano. I’ve been pretty lucky to work with a lot of people who are on my list.”
While staying busy with her role on the television series and movie sets, Taylor states that her role on ‘Kevin Can Wait’ has definitely aided in her growth as an actress.
“Just doing comedies helped me out a lot, working with comedy geniuses, like right now Stand-up comedians such as, Kevin James, Gary Valentine, and Chris Roach…like I work with great amazing people so I feel like I’m constantly learning and that’s what I love about my job. You’re kind of always evolving.”
Being such an accomplished young actress, the media is always looking for ways to shine either some good light or bad light and Taylor expressed how it felt to be in the spotlight.
“The positives are that we are given this voice and this amazing platform where we can project things that we care about and things that are close to us…we have a broader reach. Everything you do in your personal life is out there for people to judge so that’s probably the hard part. Like my friends and I who grew up in this industry…We are kids and we make mistakes just as other kids but because we are broadcasted out there…we get scrutinized a lot for it.”
Those are areas that can often be tough for any actor who is working hard to keep the fans happy as well as build a prominent career for themselves.
Taylor shared with us that if she had the opportunity to change some things about this world then it would simply be to remove bullying from society. Whether you are an actor, a student or just a regular person trying to improve your life, Spreitler feels that bullying others is just not a cool thing to do.
“I mean I just wish people would accept people for their differences…just be nice.”
Spreitler went on to add that if she was ever to be remembered for anything in her acting career then it would simply be making people just laugh.
“I would like to just be known for making people laugh, helping people escape their everyday lives and just be able to sit down and laugh a little bit from something I did.”
Taylor Spreitler is definitely a promoter of positivity in her life and the lives of others. Outside of acting she is truly the display of a bright young lady who is focus, believes in laughter for the occasion and has a very promising career ahead of her.
Be sure to keep up with the amazing Taylor Spreitler on the television series ‘Kevin Can Wait’ and catch her in the upcoming movie ‘Amityville: The Awakening‘ which releases on January 6, 2017.
“I love that America has given me a chance to shine and do what I love.” Rachel Kylian
Actress Rachel Kylian definitely keeps herself busy these days with her acting career and her most recent appearance in the holiday film, ‘Almost Christmas’. Kylian plays the younger version of Grace Meyer in the film.
Rachel enlightened us on her many travels, as well as her multicultural experiences from around the world. Kylian displayed the beautiful & confident spirit of a strong intelligent woman who is truly grateful for the opportunities she has been granted along the way. We had a wonderful time speaking with her and you can definitely expect some great things in the future from the talented French Actress.
So how did it feel to be part of such an amazing holiday film like, Almost Christmas? Well Rachel Kylian gave us a joyful response on being able to join this amazing cast.
“It is a great honor to be part of this project because it is a very big movie for me. It’s a Christmas movie, it’s a family movie, and it’s a comedy picture. I’m very happy that I am part of this project especially since it’s coming out around Christmas and it is a Christmas story that everyone will go and watch. This is a very great time for this movie to be out because it is a family movie and everyone should go see it.”
Movies that are crafted for this time of the year are definitely memorable films and often hard to gain roles for when it comes to auditioning. However, the talented French actress was able to share with us how she gracefully gained the role for this amazing holiday film.
“I heard about the part from my agent so I went out to audition for it. After reading the part I felt it was for me; they loved me and then I got a call back. It was a lot of call backs and they finally gave it to me. It was a long casting process but I eventually got the job and I was very happy.”
Rachel joyfully went on to share with us that the role was truly exciting. Her ability to relate personally to the character she played in the film made the role easy to relate to. Kylian even gave some detail about how much strength her character meant to the Meyer family in the film.
“The character I play is the mom, Grace Meyers, and she is the backbone of the family. She loves her children and they all become successful. She teaches them very good values. She loves her husband and she loves cooking for the family and having family dinners. Then something happens to her and the husband tries to bring the family back together. My character is the center of the movie because everyone loves the mom. When I first read her character I just loved it because I actually cook in real life and it was easy to play. I was excited to also play beside Danny Glover.”
As with every family during the season of giving and love, there comes some good and bad moments. We asked Rachel what we could expect to observe about the Meyer family in the film, ‘Almost Christmas’.
“This family is dysfunctional since the mother passed away. Everyone is trying to do things on their own. Rachel Meyers is trying to become a lawyer but has financial problems, she has one kid who is a bit of a nerd. There is also Evan who is a football player but with the mom gone he is losing it. Cheryl is married but her husband is a cheater and she continues to try to fight for her marriage despite being unhappy. Rachel & Cheryl are two sisters that don’t get along. Christian is successful with a kid and wife. It’s interesting with seeing them try to become a family with all of the personal problems. Grace’s sister played by Monique tries to bring the family together. She is very funny and doesn’t take no for an answer. She controls the house. Everyone is going to find themselves in this movie whether it’s the kid, aunt or uncle. It’s a very nice cast and they were fun to work with.”
Outside of being on set of the film, ‘Almost Christmas’, the lovely actress shared other projects that we can expect to look forward to in the upcoming year.
“Currently I am working on MacGyver, which is a remake to the old classic and on it I play a German assistant. It aired a couple of weeks ago and I’m looking forward to that. I am also working on a future film called, ‘Interpreters’, which will come out soon and it is an action film, in it I play a doctor. I also do voice overs and I speak 4 languages so I get to work on a lot of films. This year I worked on Criminal Minds and I also did a film called ‘Red Hot’, which is on Amazon. I am also hoping next year that we can do a sequel to ‘Almost Christmas’.
Rachel Kylian is not new to the stage.
She began her early years involved in modeling as well as theater. She shared with us how she came into the field of acting as well as her passion for the art.
“When I was young my mom put me into a lot of classes. I did ballet at seven and discovered that I loved to perform. I also did theater at the age of twelve in France & Africa. I always loved to be on stage and perform and act. I got into arts very young. For me modeling came out of the blue, I tried it and did my first runway when I was sixteen. I also did beauty contests.”
“When I came to America at about seventeen, a friend of mine invited me to try acting and so I pursued it. It was my dream to perform. Art was always in my heart; I did film and commercials. It’s been a long journey, and being in front of people was a natural thing. I’m a black French actress and I love that in America you have a chance. I love that America has given me a chance to shine and do what I love.”
Rachel Kylian is very diverse and brings that je nais se quoi to the stage! She is unique and yet able to relate to her roles naturally because of her experience. When speaking with her about all of her many travels and involvement with the arts across the world, it is very obvious that she knows how to handle the spotlight. Kylian is an amazing woman who delivers that natural ability to connect and play any role that she is presented with. We are looking forward to seeing her in the holiday film, ‘Almost Christmas’ and we hope that everyone makes plans to go see it along with their family.
“I really make my son my priority, so any free time I get aside from whatever he needs is when I put the time into my music” (Fizz)
The greatest gift a father can give to his son is a book about his love for raising him. Fizz is more than just a music performer and definitely more than just a regular guy on a Reality Show. Fizz is a single father trying to do what’s best for his son while building a solid foundation for him to rise up on. To be able to speak with Fizz as he shared some positive aspects behind writing his book was truly inspiring. Fizz shared information that could help a lot of single fathers out there who are trying to be that role model to their sons. This book is truly going to shine some light on the hidden places that real fathers such as Fizz deal with and how they can grow beyond it all, while maintaining a successful career.
Fizz’s new book is titled ‘No Excuses: Being the Father My Son Deserves’. The book is co-written by Fizz and National Best Selling Author Brittani Williams who also wrote ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ and the ‘Black Diamond Saga’.
Fizz took a moment to share some information pertaining to his book with Kontrol. We recently had an interview and was mesmerized by the beautiful display of pride and love he takes in being a father to his son. He is presenting more than just a book, he is also giving life changing information to his fans!
Fizz shared with us some very profound information behind his idea for putting out his book and also highlighted some facts about what led to him to feeling the need to help other single fathers out there.
“It all started first with the show Love & Hip Hop Hollywood showing how I am as a father and from there that’s where I went. People were always complimenting me on my fatherhood and how good of a father they thought I was and how I was able to manage or balance my career and fatherhood at the same time. I felt it was a good platform for me to reach out to the younger fathers. There are up and coming fathers that are not in a relationship anymore and are now single parents. I’m also speaking to anybody in my situation as well. I really wanted to give some advice on how they can better themselves while being a father or just give them the outlook on my story, my struggles, and how I was able to get through it all. How I progressed from it and give vital information to help motivate them.”
So what exactly can readers gain from his book? Well Fizz states, “I would say they could gain some knowledge on fatherhood and how to deal with the pros & cons of it. How to deal with the struggles of balancing an entertainment career or any career. How to function between the two. Most importantly, not to put so much stress on yourself when it comes to progressing in your career. The fact that you are a parent is a constant reminder that you have that responsibility no matter what.”
Fizz makes it clear in a heartfelt tone that single fathers simply have to find that balance while continuing to be a responsible parent and maintaining a successful career. He stressed this has to be done for your sons, daughters, and never to let it all stress you out. For those who follow the artists on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood, Fizz definitely displays a calm, but positive level of balance while raising his handsome son, Kamron. His book truly sounds like something a lot of young fathers should have a copy of on their shelves for inspiration when it debuts.
Since he has taken a conscious direction with his balance between fatherhood and music, we were curious to know if he planned on putting out any more books once this is released. Fizz casually responded, “Well I’m not certain, it depends on how this well this one is received by everyone. If I can be that voice for a certain demographic of people then I’m all for it”.
Fizz has a large fan base and I’m sure that once this book hits the shelves, many will definitely take interest in hearing more from him.
Besides his book we asked if he had any other new projects he was working on for his fans and he responded, “Yes, I’m actually about to release a new music project, a mix tape called ‘Lifestyle’ and you all can expect that really soon. There isn’t a set date, but be on the look out for it.”
For all the lovely ladies who have been following the handsome soon to be 31 year old and wondering if he was on the market, well Fizz went on to inform the fans, “Yea, I’m single, and then he added with a laugh, “I’m a single father!”.
So ladies don’t just come for one single dose of him, be prepared to come and accept him as well as his bundle of joy, which is his son.
Do you all feel that Love & Hip Hop Hollywood had a part in the role he displays as a father?
Well Fizz briefly explained that the show only gave a positive aspect to the father he already was prior to the show.
“I think it made me more cautious as a father. I’m very cautious as to what my son is subject to out here and in the public eye overall. I’m also more cautious on how I present myself with what I do, but it didn’t make me change up or make me become a better father…I’ve always been the father I display myself as.”
What makes his book worth reading is the fact that he never changed up on who he was as a father to his son because of a television show. He remained consistent and that is a definite plus for anyone looking to read a book from the voice of a man who is genuine about who he is.
So, how did Fizz team up with best-selling author Brittani Williams for this awesome book idea? He stated, “We teamed up through management…her management team actually reached out to my people about writing a book and if I had any subjects that I would like to touch on. I thought that touching on fatherhood would be the best for me because of my demographic offans and everyone who knows me or pays attention to me understands that about me. I felt like it was the right subject to touch on.”
Fizz also added that this is not the final step for him in his career achievements, “I will always feel under accomplished. I feel like I want to accomplish everything in the world, so I’m always pushing to strive for more.
With a new view on life and a positive display of growth, he is definitely no longer ‘LiL Fizz’ from B2K.
“It’s some people who will always refer to me as ‘Lil Fizz‘ because that’s what they know me as, but…It’s just Fizz now because I’ll be 31 soon and I’m far from little ( he laughed)…if anything my son is Lil Fizz and I’m Big Fizz.“
Fans are definitely going to be waiting for this book to hit the shelves because we all have had the opportunity to watch him grow through his music as well as take in what he showcased on television. Fizz is the perfect role model to young fathers all over. His love for his son is simply a beautiful display of living art for black fathers alike.
“I really make my son my priority, so any free time I get aside from whatever he needs is when I put the time into my music and it goes as it comes. It’s more of a hobby now for me because my son is my focus, so if I get the time to do the music then great, but my son is my top priority.”
His book is set to be released everywhere books are sold in April 2017 and the pre-order link will be in his bio on his Instagram page @airfizzo really soon.
With the ongoing rumors and drama that surrounds Fizz’s relationship with his son’s mother, Moneice Slaughter, it will be exciting to hear a very genuine, in-depth perspective on fatherhood and the relationship with his son in his own words.
It was really rewarding and good to see the future and what can come from your hard work.” (Brittani Williams)
Author and graphic designer extraordinaire Brittani Williams has sold several hundred thousand books and is even currently writing books with two of Love & Hip Hop Hollywood reality stars. The talented young writer is doing what many writers dream to do in a lifetime. While managing the recent release of her latest book, “Carl Weber’s Kingpins: Philadelphia”, with the well-known New York Times Best Selling author Carl Weber, she managed to team up with former B2k group member and Love & Hip Hop Hollywood reality star, “Fizz”.
Brittani Williams and Fizz collaborated on his new book soon to be released titled, ‘‘No Excuses: Being the Father My Son Deserves”.
The multi-talented author shared some insight behind the book collaboration with Fizz as well as how she became to be the published author and writer she is today.
Nothing but great expectations are in store for Williams as she shared with us and fans what she is currently working on.
“I’m actually working on a lot of stuff, so there will definitely be more books. I’m even working on a cookbook and I’ve partnered with my publisher, The TMG Firm, to launch my own publishing company called “Trendsetters Publications”. My author LaDonna Robinson and I wrote a book together called “Guilty of Stealing His Heart”. I’m currently looking for more authors to sign and give them an opportunity to release their books. I’m also working on a collaboration with Hazel-E from Love & Hip Hop Hollywood called “Girl Code: Ethics as a Lifestyle”, so be on the look out for those in the top of 2017.
So of course it’s got to be a bit of a challenge when you land the opportunity to collaborate with a well-known artist such as Fizz and Williams enlightened us on the amazing experience.
“I would say it was just a little bit challenging because it was the first time I had ever collaborated with a celebrity. With anything new you have to figure out what works best and once you figure out the formula to get the quality content, then you can go with that. It was really rewarding and good to see the future and what can come from your hard work.” “I would love to collaborate with him again. He has definitely been easy to work with. He is nice and laid back…which is the same way he is on TV.”
For any writer, it’s a huge achievement to network with other authors and celebrities all while pursuing your dreams. Williams stepped back for a minute to share with us what it was like pursuing her dream as a writer and some words she would have given a younger version of herself years ago before the success.
“I would have said to myself to stand firm on what you want to do because as a teen I was always creative, but I wasn’t able to be creative because that was not what my mom wanted. So, when I got out of school it was, “no you can’t do that”…”that’s not a job”…you need to go to school for this. I basically did what she wanted me to do until I became an adult and I could say “I’m not doing that anymore.”
“So, I wish I would have stayed more firm on what I really wanted to do. Even though my writing career started early, I was still published in my early twenties and now I’m 35. I was published, but I started writing when I was like twelve, so I wish I would have been able to deal with that a little bit sooner.”
It’s always tough for those you love to accept dreams outside of their own, but Williams has stuck through the worst of times and she is amazingly doing beyond what many may have ever saw for her.
In a world full of critics, Williams added that you really have to maintain a tough skin not just in life, but even when it comes to writing books. The hardest part about writing for the public eye is often the negative feedback.
“For most people it would likely be being critiqued. That can be tough sometimes like you can get emotional at times and your feelings can be a bit hurt. However, if you choose to be a writer or any kind of entertainer, you have to have tough skin because people will always have something to say. There will always be people that are negative and I love to take those things and use them to make me better.”
Williams has truly become a master of her gift for writing and is not afraid to step in any direction when it comes to doing what she shares a passion for, writing. When it comes to certain genres of the art, she is not picky about bringing those letters to life on paper.
“I don’t really prefer one genre over the other….I mainly write a lot of urban fiction, but that’s because that’s what my publisher wants or what the readers want from me. I’ve written other things, but I love to write period, so it really doesn’t matter.”
When you are into your passion, then everything related to it is nothing but a love experience. We asked if she had the opportunity to turn any of her books into a movie, which one of her top sellers she would pick from. Williams happily responded, “Definitely my book ‘Black Diamond’. I actually turned that into a play back in 2010. I produced a stage play of it, so at that time I also wrote a script for it. That’s always been something I wanted to see on the big screen…that would be amazing if that could happen!”
The saying goes that one should never upset a writer or a singer because you might end up in a song or a book. Williams says, “They never upset me, but I’ve definitely used the likeness of some friends and family…even myself in some of the things I write, but not because anybody made me upset…but if you know me, then you may end up in one.”
When we touched briefly on who was a major inspiration to Williams in her writing career, she calmly stated, “I would definitely say Quan because he has been around for a very long time and his work is consistent. Even when you are talking about his work, he never slacks with his readers…he takes his time. It’s a lot of good qualities about him that have made him successful, so he has always been someone I looked up to.”
Outside of her writing, she manages to keep up a successful career as a Graphic Designer and informed us that it is another talent that she will continue to work on.
“I will definitely continue with my graphics. I’m a graphic designer for a lot of independent authors and many of them are bestselling authors. If you log onto Amazon right now, you’ll see a lot of the book covers I’ve designed on the bestsellers’ list. My ultimate goal is to staff my graphics company, so it’s not solely on me.”
When you think of words like successful, accomplished, talented, and creative; Author Brittani Williams should definitely come to mind. We are excited for the talented author and her book collaboration with Fizz. She is living out her dreams regardless of any negativity and we all should aspire to follow suit!
