Charmaine Johnise from VH1’s Black Ink Crew: Chicago Launches New Apron Line

Growing up as the only child has made Charmaine Johnise a little bit spoiled, the VH1 reality star admits in an exclusive interview on Starrdom100 Radio. But she is no stranger to hard work and creates her own opportunities.

What many didn’t know is that she is more than just a reality TV figure, as Johnise is a graduate of Howard University, host of an iHeart radio show, and has recently launched her own Apron Line. Due to the negative portrayal black women oftentimes get in the reality show business, the 28-year-old has garnered much praise for being a positive voice for women of color.

Johnise, who is set for the new season of Black Ink Crew: Chicago, gives a little insight into what will take place on the next show, and talks more about her entrepreneurial endeavors in an exclusive interview on Starrdom100 Radio.

What can we expect on Season 5 of Black Ink Crew: Chicago?

“If you thought Season 4 was crazy. Just wait until Season 5, like you really haven’t seen anything yet. It gets even crazier. But the good thing is that we all join forces back together again, like at some point. So, you know, we are trying to make things work out, you know as a unit with the people that started this. Just remembering like who 9 Mag is and why it started and what it was built on… and you know the teamwork and the efforts; we’re going back to that. But honey the drama…we wouldn’t be number one without drama. Let’s just say that so, you know reality TV is the new soap opera. So just be tuning in every Wednesday. We air in January 2019, I don’t know the exact date yet, but be ready for that!”

Going into this new season, what can you say you’ve learned about yourself from last season?

“Something I’ve learned probably is that I’m a little spoiled (laughing) but you know, I’m the only child, and you know how that goes. Something that’s different is I’m just stepping up like in every way. Like people are going to take me serious this season. I’m not going to say hey guys take me serious and they’re laughing behind my back like, you know, you need to get with the program or we don’t have to do this. Other than that, you know, I’ve been taking some boxing classes! (Laughing)  I’m always bringing the best of the best of myself to the TV. So, you know just definitely look out for that for sure.”

75032F85-F651-4BD4-B8C7-4E5282BBF220-13367-000006D5C9F04C8E

You have a new Apron Line out, Tell me about that.

“Yes, I created them myself as far as like the ideas and everything behind it. And yes, it’s really cute stuff like something for everybody. I got aprons for men and women. Some of the aprons say “Wakanda Food You Like”, “Real Men Get Down In The Kitchen”, “Chop It Like It’s Hot” and more. So everybody can get those at http://www.allthingsCharmaine.com. I also have an App coming out that’s going to showcase a lot of my life and cooking videos. That’s going to be released in a few months. I’m focusing on a lot of holiday foods because I’m going to put out a holiday like cookbook as well soon.”

You recently shared your thoughts about how black women are betrayed on reality TV. What are your thoughts on that?

“So basically it’s crazy because I think women in general are kind of portrayed in a crazy light on Reality TV period! I just think women in general are expected to…you know, do the most on TV, whereas men can kind of fall in the background. Women are expected to bring all the messy and all the gossip. I do think that you know, with black woman unfortunately, they look to us for the ratchet and that ghetto turn up. How they’re portrayed is crazy, but we’re also giving that to them too. So we can’t even blame TV because if that’s the case, black women would have been stepped up to the plate. So I just think you know at the end of the day get your coin sis because I have my own reality TV situation. I haven’t handled everything perfect. And you know, sometimes I was in situations as well, but on the other end, you know, when you think about it… think about the footprint maternally for our kids and everything is not necessarily something that you know, you can be proud of all of your actions on TV. But hey, if you’re living in your true life and if that is true, you live life with no regrets and if that is truly yourself then that’s a whole different story.

In a recent interview on Starrdom100 Radio, Actor Darrin D. Henson gave some of the inside scoop on BET’s New Hit TV series ‘The Family Business.’

Darrin Dewitt Henson initially rose to fame as one of the most notable characters on Showtime’s television series, Soul Food. Henson’s critically acclaimed portrayal of ex-convict-turned-businessman, Lem Van Adams, demonstrated his ability to connect deeply with urban audiences.

His work on Soul Food earned him subsequent roles in popular urban films Stomp the Yard and Life Support.  He has also had key roles ABC’s television series Lincoln Heights and more recently, the hit dramas, VH1’s  Single Ladies and BET’s Being Mary Jane. Take a look below at what he shared on Starrdom100 Radio!

Tanisha Davis: “So I’m excited about this new TV series, can you tell me a little bit more about it?”

Darrin D. Henson: “Sure, “The Family Business” which airs on BET at 9 pm on Tuesdays is about the Duncan’s family, an exotic car business-owning family, successful black family in NYC who is in the business of cars and other businesses, and as you know in business where there is success there is also jealousy. So there is jealousy within the family, outside of the family, and there is war going on with different cartels you know, but the Duncan family is the new family on the block to watch out for.”

Darrin explained how there are obstacles that come in the world of business and being successful in the family.  So with the Duncan family there is a lot of trouble within the family and outside of the family.

Now let’s get to know the character he plays!

Tanisha: So you play Orlando Duncan, can you tell me a little about your character?

Darrin: “Orlando is next in line to run the family business. The first episode shows that he is going to be the recipient of the business from his father and again it raises eyebrows and makes other family members jealous, you know, LC  Duncan has had a long-standing relationship with the  exotic car business as well as the narcotic business so, its raising jealousy within the family itself.”

Tanisha“This sounds kind of like a mafia-style family”

Darrin: “This family is not to be messed with!”

We can tell this new series is going to keep you entertained and questioning what’s going to happen next.

Tanisha: What drew you to this project because I know its based on Carl Weber’s book so what made you want to be apart of it?

Darrin: Well, I worked with Tri Destined who is the producing company behind the film, many many times, I also worked with Carl Weber many times, so reading the books working with Carl and working with Tri Destined, then reading about this particular show and seeing that its so well developed, and the characters are well developed…who wouldn’t want to play Orlando Duncan?! Its an opportunity to do great work and tell great stories.”

Darrin then explains how the cast is the best part about going into work every day because there is a great group of people to work along side of.

Tanisha: How would you describe the Duncan family?

Darrin: The Duncan’s family is not to be played with,  Sean Ringgold who plays my big bro…plays the enforcer. He is literally ready to smash heads, you can see in the first  episode that’s what we did, we smashed heads.’

Tanisha: Whats the relationship behind scenes with the cast, are you guys having a lot of fun?

Darrin: We are literally like family there’s no question that its a family.

Tanisha: Out of all of the characters that you have played in other movies, what do you like most about this character?

Darrin: Orlando is the real deal, he’s smart, strategic, he loves his family, he’s an entrepreneur and he’s ready for more, he’s a well-developed character with human flaws which is great because we can see how he unfolds hopefully for the next 10 years.

Tanisha: Are there any upcoming projects with you, I know you have a movie for Thanksgiving?

Darrin: Yes, its called Nothing Like Thanksgiving, it’s going to be on the AMC channel.  Im very excited about people seeing it, its about love & life… and once again FAMILY its one to watch on Thanksgiving Day.

Rapper Future Is Being Accused By A Young Lady For Not Paying For Her Flight To Come Meet Up With Him!

A young lady from Mobile, Alabama claims that Rapper Future had her fly out to California recently to meet up with him. She claimed that the rapper promised to pay her back the money she spent on the flight once she arrived. According to Shamartess, Future said he would pay her back “1000%” for the $550 plane ticket to Los Angeles she purchased to come visit him.

She stated that once she arrived to the hotel that the rapper had booked for her, to obviously spend time with him, that the front desk clerk stated the room was only available for  one night.  She shared on social media….

“He never had plans on paying me, I asked front desk did he cancel one of my nights…they said the room was booked for one night from the start..so that mean he had plans on f*cking me, not paying me, and putting me out…”

It seems that it was obvious he wasn’t looking to hang out with her. We are not sure if the two met on some type of business deal but however things went sour after the rapper did not meet up with her to give her the money back for the flight. The young lady also claimed that the rapper’s baby mom called her afterwards.

Should Future give her back her money for flying out to see him or nah?

Christopher Martin of “KID N’ PLAY” Discusses His Journey in the Music Industry & New Hip-Hop Film Documentary!

Related image

During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s the voices of Hip-Hop were starting to be heard across cultural and socio-economic lines bringing light to the street life. One of the crews that played a major voice in this era was the hip hop duo known as, Kid N’ Play.

Christopher Martin most popularly known as “Play” from the late 80s/early 90s Hip Hop duo, Kid N’ Play, is one of the iconic pioneers of the Hip Hop culture when it comes to music and dance! Christopher “Play” Martin along with co-member of the group, Christopher Reid formerly known as Kid, helped to pave the way and open doors to the social revolution of dance within the hip hop culture!

Outside of memorable lyrics and the group’s famous dances known as the Kick Step and the Funky Charleston, the group aided in bringing attention to the art and creativity of dance.

Classic films like ‘House Party’, ‘Class Act’ and even a popular animated 90s cartoon series based on the real life of the hip-hop duo, was just one of the many amazing creations behind the multi-talented group.

The New York native, Christopher Martin now has a new film documentary called, “ANDiDANCED” which is about the women and men who danced and helped to make a lot of the 80s – 90s rappers and singers performances exciting, and unforgettable. (ANDiDanced.com)

In the documentary, he plans to travel from city to city to speak with the dancers responsible for the videos, dance shows and images we enjoy til this very day. A few of the rap artists appearing in the documentary include, LL Cool J, NWA, Salt ‘n Pepa,  MC Hammer, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Big Daddy Kane, Heavy D, Slick Rick, Kid N’ Play, and a host of others!

The executive producers of the show are Christopher “Play” Martin and Cheryl “Salt” James. Producers are Shane Johnson and Donielle Artese.

Recently I had the honor and the pleasure of interviewing the Hip Hop icon, Christopher Martin on my radio show (Starrdom100 Radio) and he discussed his journey into the hip hop culture as well as shed some light on his new film documentary, “ANDiDANCED.” As a 80s baby and true fan of Kid N’ Play, the experience was exciting! Take a brief look at a few excerpts from the interview below.

Christopher Martin 2

Tanisha Davis: Who was Christopher Martin before being known as “Play”?

“Christopher Martin was an accident waiting to happen. Coming up in the streets of New York, you didn’t have the images or the inspiration that you have today, especially in Hip Hop because it didn’t exist. Matter of fact it was an era and a time believe it or not on this planet where Hip Hop didn’t exist, and when it did begin to come, it wasn’t even called Hip Hop. So I wasn’t really relating to what was happening in the schools, I was more attracted to what was happening in the streets because that’s what looked like success for a young black boy or teenager. I was attracted to a lot of the negative elements in the streets, and that was becoming my aspiration and inspiration. My father was doing his thing successfully or so I thought in the streets, so I wanted to be with him and then combine that with the images I was seeing in the movie theaters. I was just going to be the best, I guess, criminal I could be and I flirted with that, tampered with that, and thank God he used something that was eventually going to be called Hip Hop to save my life.”

Tanisha Davis: You have a new documentary film called “AndIDanced” tell me about that.

“It’s something I have been working on for many years now, it took that long to be able to accomplish it. I have been traveling around the country and trying to find a lot of old friends to have great conversation with, which included many of the dancers who were responsible for the success of a lot of entertainers, rappers and singers……..It’s really just talking to them about how they started out in low budget videos and R&B videos that are now considered R&B & Hip Hop classics.”

Tanisha Davis: What are your thoughts on NBA player Lebron James doing a House Party remake?

“I think it’s great. Lebron James has always shown nothing but love for Kid and I. It’s very apparent how much he loves the work that we have done. There have been times where he has even posted pictures of his two sons with haircuts that he did to recreate the looks of Kid N’ Play. We did an Allstate commercial with him at one time, so he’s a great person, and I know what he is trying to do and what he is doing with accomplishing and trying to make a difference in entertainment. So no, I have no problem with that at all. They say the highest form of flattery is imitation.”

JAMALL ANDERSON RE-RELEASES CONTROVERSIAL NCAA GAMBLING BOOK

College Football Star Releases Video and Book of the Biggest NCAA Scandal “The Best Bet”

TAMPA, FL – It is known as the biggest scandal in NCAA football history! The Best Bet is the memoir of Jamall Anderson who reveals how his once rising career was cut short by gambling on games and even betting against his own teammates. This exclusive account is the first the world has heard of the roles that he and other teammates played in the biggest gambling scandal in the history of NCAA College Football.

Co-written by Tampa Bay Times columnist Ernest Hooper, The Best Bet details how Jamall’s decisions at Boston College set off a chain of events that put him in a downward spiral of confusion and manipulation and eventually caused him to miss out on his future in professional football.

In 2017, twenty years after the scandal broke, a video surfaced on TMZ Sports of Jamall and ex-teammates having an X-rated party in the dorms at Boston College in 1996. The video showed football players taking part in underaged drinking with High School recruits and several naked strippers. This video included an exclusive interview with Jamall on TMZ where he warned today’s athletes not to make the same mistake he made.

This video was released to support Jamall Anderson’s book, ‘The Best Bet‘.

The Best Bet by [Anderson, Jamall, Hooper, Ernest]

Another recent surprise is that the logo of the book is starting to be used to support Colin Kaepernick’s stance regarding the national anthem. The cover of The Best Bet was released in 2016 of a football player kneeling and some are using it to support their viewpoint about our country and the sport of football. Although Jamall finds the use of his logo flattering he does point out that Kaepernick’s use is for protest and his use of the logo is to represent prayer, which is how Jamall has coped with his situation.

Today, Jamall spends his days speaking to aspiring athletes warning of his cautionary tale and encourages them to heed the warnings of their parents and coaches. He’s goal is to seek retribution through contribution. He reveals his own failures and the seamy underside of college football that revolves around illegal wages, criminal mischief, and using prostitutes to help recruit high school athletes.

Jamall is currently working on his own merchandise line and the book has been re-released on Amazon! Click Here to order!

Whoopi Goldberg Ends Interview After Sexual Harassment Question

Whoopi Goldberg, has recently been showing up in the media lately after releasing information according to the Denver Business Journal about bringing her own cannabis products to the state of Colorado. Goldberg’s products are designed for women and aim to reduce pain and cramps from menstruation.  Goldberg founded her company last year, “Whoopi & Maya” and has been selling the product in about 300 dispensaries in California.

Besides working on the production of her cannabis products and clothing line, she was on The Domenick Nati Show today for about two minutes before hanging up. She began the discussion sharing some information about her new Holiday sweaters in her collection.

MAINMAIN

“They are my second collection, and they are as silly and wonderful as they were last year, but now they fit better and you can buy them at Zappos for $89 bucks. They come in all shapes and sizes, and they are just meant to make you smile.”

The mood of the conversation soon switched as Domenick brought up the topic of sexual harassment, which has currently been a trending topic in the media lately. He asked Goldberg had she ever experienced sexual harassment in her career and she stated.

                                                                          “No, honey!”

Shortly after her response Whoopi Goldberg hung up the phone.

Check out the interview below.

Maybe today was one of those days that she was a bit exhausted on the subject of sexual harassment. Because recently during an appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,‘ ‘The View’ co-host gave her thoughts on Harvey Weinstein’s Academy removal and what she thinks is at the root of sexual harassment matters. Whoopi Goldberg voiced her thoughts on the recent wave of sexual assault and harassment claims against those in high position in Hollywood.

She admitted during that she wasn’t surprised by the volume of women coming forward, Goldberg argued that any act of sexual misconduct is about “power.” Goldberg explained, “People in power, be they men or women, always prey on people who they know won’t tell.”

When Colbert interjected that he “hadn’t heard of any women in this one,” The View co-host said she wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

“Not yet, but you know its coming. It’s all coming and what’s happening is women are taking back the narrative, because they’re saying, ‘Look, we’re going to make it dangerous for you to sexually assault us and sexually abuse us…’ You’re going to lose your power base if you do that from now on, because women are starting to speak,” Goldberg said.

It’s definitely time that women begin to take a stand against sexual harassment and not just sit back and be silent about what is happening around them.

Get To Know Dancer/Choreographer Janelle Ginestra #KontrolMagExclusive

“Dancing has always been a part of my life, and I was lead to it by just the pure passion of liking it.” -Janelle Ginestra

Dance is a highly expressive, yet often overlooked, art form. Yet certain performers aim to make the passion and hard work of dance shine in spite of the naysayers. JANELLE GINESTRA is one of those dancers! Whether it’s taking time out for choreographing for your favorite artist, or bringing together dancers, she is the impressive balance between molding creativity with a mixture of finesse and emotion. Kontrol had the pleasure of discovering the start of her career into dance and more.

“I started dancing at a very young age, like when I was two years old. Dancing has always been a part of my life, and I was lead to it by just the pure passion of liking it. It was never like my mom put me in it as a hobby, I told my mom at like almost 2 years old that it was what I wanted to do.”

To be passionate at such a very young age is simply amazing. Ginestra proves that she is not new to the art of dance and gives her definition on what dance means to her.

“Dance means everything! Doing it, creating it, watching it…just feels right for me. I think it’s one of the most beautiful freedoms of expression, and I think it’s amazing how we can use it to make music come to life.”

Janelle Ginestra has had the pleasure of bringing her passion and skill of dancing before a multitude of artist. You may remember her from the music video Anaconda by Nicki Minaj, where she had the joy of starring as one of the lead dancers in the video. I believe the world went crazy over this video and she shared with us her experience of how she came into the role.
Janelle Ginestra interview with Kontrol Magazine
Janelle Ginestra performs with Nicki Minaj in Anaconda.

“For me to get that video, it was like a small private call, and that process was not too hard to get. Once on the job you had to keep the job by having good work ethic, she (Nicki Minaj) had to be able to vibe with you, and of course every job is not like that. For Pink’s video I had to go audition with tons of people and fight people out for that job, so it’s just a trick of the trade. Sometimes it’s easy to get and sometimes it’s hard.”

For those young ladies out there aspiring to become professional dancers, Ginestra states that,

“I would give the advice to have your own identity. You don’t want to be a mock of somebody else because that person already exists. You want to have so much confidence, hunger, passion and the polish. You have to know that you are a stand out in the room and be realistic with yourself. If you’re not then you need to work you’re a$$ off to get there. If you are, then you need to keep believing in that and not mold to what other people try to make you.”

When speaking on whether she feels that the art of dance instills self-confidence? She adds that,
“I feel like any kind of person can dance; whether you are small, big, chunky, skinny, the most not attractive, attractive, it allows you to be a star in your own rights. You don’t have to be a certain way or look a certain way to be a dancer. You don’t have to move a certain way to be a star. There are like really cool contemporary people that you would never think would be a dancer but they get out and go do their thing. I think it allows you to feel confident in the person that you are and the way that you express. So if you feel nerdy at school but you walk into the dance room and you’re one of the most bad a$$ contemporary people, it allows you to shine where you may sometimes not in other areas of life.”
These are very strong words of wisdom, proving that you can still rock the stage no matter who you are, what you look like, or where you are from. This is why Janelle Ginestra is so powerful in her gift of dance. She knows what matters and as a choreographer aims to pull out that inner baddy who can slay the stage!

After just dropping a new popping dance video titled “I Like That’, we were curious to know what else she had in store for us this year.

Will and I are hoping to be choreographing a new movie that should be coming out soon. We are going to be doing music videos for some Chinese artists that will be coming over to the United States. We also just recently opened our new studio which is probably the biggest deal so we are going to try to make it the new amazing thing in LA where classes are held but with a different energy. We want to create something that we wish existed which is like a safe zone where people feel free to just have fun and dance.”

As you can see, dance is everything that Janelle Ginestra is made of and we are so happy to have had the pleasure to discover more about her world as a dancer!

EXCLUSIVE: Kodak Black Lawyer Wants To Drop Him As A Client: He owes me money!

Kodak Black’s Lawyer Wants To Drop Him As A Client

Looks like the lawyer needs him a little baby who can listen because Kodak ain’t paying him no attention.

According to theJasmineBRAND.com, Kodak Black is accused of screwing over his lawyer representing him in a legal battle with a concert promoter – with his attorney heading to drop his client, saying he refuses to communicate with him or pay
his legal bills.

Here’s the latest: On July 14th, Kodak’s lawyer headed to court demanding the court allow him to drop his client. The rapper’s lawyer, Darren Heitner, explains he is seeking permission to withdraw as Kodak’s representative in the lawsuit. He says irreconcilable differences have arisen between Kodak and himself, which as a result it is inappropriate for him to continue representing Kodak.

He claims to have made numerous attempts to contact Kodak and other legal counsel for him, all of which have completely ignored a multitude of emails, phone calls and which precludes him from continuing to be able to rep him in the legal battle.

Related image

Further, he says Kodak is very past due and refuses to pay by way of ignoring communications. The lawyer claims he will be imposed with an unreasonable hardship if the court will not let him drop Kodak immediately.

Here’s the backstory: Last year, the rapper was sued for fraud by Florida-based concert promoters, JackBoyd Entertainment and Three Island Boyz Entertainment.

The promoters explained Kodak signed a deal with them in November 2015 to perform a Valentine’s Day concert. He was to be paid $7k (half upfront) and would perform 1 hour on stage. The promoters said they spent a ton of money on marketing and selling tickets.

Days before the show, Kodak informed them he wasn’t going to show because he was taking a vacation with his girlfriend to Puerto Rico for Valentine’s Day. They sued the rapper for the money lost on the concert and harm to their reputations.

The rapper headed to Florida court disputing they had an agreement on the concert date and claimed they agreed to determine a future suitable date to perform. He also claimed that he was never paid the $3,500 upfront he was owed. As a result, he accused the promoters of breaching the deal first and demanded their suit be thrown out of court. He was represented by attorney Darren Heitner.
