CHINESE STUDENT POISONS HIS BLACK ROOMMATE WITH THALLIUM

Yukai Yang, an international student from China was arrested and charged Thursday with ethnic intimidation, institutional vandalism, and criminal mischief after poisoning Juwan Royal, his black roommate with thallium.

According to The Washington Post, Royal and Yang who were both seniors and chemistry majors had been friends for several years. The first incident occurred in February. One night Royal drank from a water bottle then immediately felt a burning sensation in his mouth.  One March 18 Royal fell ill again. He was sitting at his computer before feeling dizzy and passing out. The police were called and when they asked Yang what happened he told them that he thought someone was tampering with liquids in their room.

One week later, their room was vandalized and Royal told the police that he thought Yang had something to do with it. After the investigators matched Yang’s handwriting with the slur written on the desk, he was arrested.  When Yang interviewed with the Morning Call, he admitted to buying thallium and other chemicals and mixing them into the food and drinks. He claimed he was only intending to poison himself if he didn’t do well on his upcoming exams.

Yang was also suspended from school and his student visa has been revoked.

Can Drinking Tea (of All Things) Really Help You Lose Weight?

A common mistake made by many dieters is not taking into account what they drink. The truth is the fluids you consume can have just as big an impact on your waistline – and your health – as the foods you eat.

Of course, that means for dieters who are serious about losing weight – no more soda and no more alcohol … But what about green tea and black tea?

Are these teas good for you – or could they actually cause you to gain unwanted weight?

The answer may surprise you. You see, most people think green tea, in particular, can help you lose weight not gain it … But that may not necessarily be the case.

Several studies have shown that green tea does not affect weight loss.

For example, a Cochrane Review of green tea research found that green tea led to only small, statistically insignificant weight loss in overweight or obese adults. The review also noted that regular consumption of green tea didn’t help people keep weight off.

In addition to these alarming findings, there could be another problem – if you are putting sugar into your green tea that could be a source of extra calories that you are not accounting for.

According to experts, some people who are frequent tea drinkers may consume up to 300 calories or more a day from sugar.

So what about Black tea?

Black tea is actually “burnt green tea,” and it is full of caffeine just like regular green tea. Ingesting too much caffeine can cause heart palpitations, nausea, vomiting and “jittery” feelings.

Even if you drink decaffeinated green or black tea, the decaffeination process destroys much of the natural ingredients. It makes more sense to drink a tea that naturally contains no caffeine (like the tea I’m going to reveal in just a moment).

Another common problem with black tea is that it is often taken with milk, which slows down the absorption rate of valuable antioxidants and polyphenols. Surprisingly, skim milk slows this process down at a greater extent than whole milk.

So if green tea and black tea are not ideal for weight loss what should the responsible dieter drink?

The answer was found in the jungles of Africa where Kenyan tribesmen drink red tea to eliminate hunger pains while they hunt for their next meal.

Red Tea not only gets rid of hunger pains, but it also promotes fat burning and boosts energy without relying on caffeine. That’s right, red tea is caffeine free.

Red tea is basically the perfect health drink. It’s refreshing and tasty, hot or iced. It helps clear toxins … it reduces fat-storing hormones … and it promotes the production of fat-burning hormones … all while naturally reducing stress and balancing insulin.

Red tea is caffeine free, vegan and vegetarian safe, dairy free, gluten free and sugar-free.

It’s a great alternative to caffeine — with absolutely no jitters, so “flushing fat away” is safe and rapid. Red tea also contains no fats or carbohydrates. The flavor is mild and slightly sweet.

One more thing about red tea, it has no oxalic acid, so there is no risk of kidney stones, unlike with black and green teas. It also has very low tannin levels so it’s much better for you than green and black teas that have high tannin levels and can bind iron.

One great thing about red tea is that it is packed full of powerful antioxidants that fight oxidative damage caused by toxins in your body and that are scientifically proven to have an antibacterial, antiparasitic and antiviral action to boost your immunity.

The bottom line is drinking delicious red tea not only “halts hunger” but can also reverse the harm caused by the built-up toxins in your fat cells with its powerful antioxidants.

That’s why I believe that red tea could be the breakthrough many people who have been struggling to lose fat have been waiting for.

It’s a delicious red tea that requires no doctor’s visits, no lectures about losing weight, no expensive pills, no starving yourself and no intense workouts…

And best of all — it helps eliminate harmful fat by working with your body’s natural fat-burning metabolism and doing it all — without you feeling any cravings or hunger pains!

Kim K sticks by Kanye West

Kim Kardashian is sticking by her man after his “SNL” Donald Trump rant. The 37-year-old reality TV star took to Instagram Tuesday to share a picture with Kanye West, with a caption that says “We got love.” The message comes after Kanye appeared on Saturday night live over the weekend. After his performance, Kanye gave an off-air speech that Chris Rock posted on his Instagram story. In the speech Kanye defended his support of President Donald Trump.

A source told ET that Kim and Kourtney Kardashian were present during the speech. The source also said that Kim stared at Kanye and didn’t seem fazed by his remarks. Following his appearance on “SNL,” Kanye took to social media, while wearing a MAGA hat, saying he wanted the country to “build factories here in America” and “abolish the 13th amendment.” That is the amendment that abolished slavery.

During Sunday’s episode of “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” Kim K also revealed she and her husband have had some arguments recently. She also admitted to neglecting Kanye after having kids.

Author/ Actress Briana Cole Offers 5 Helpful Tips for Starting out in your Acting Career

It’s Time To Act Right!

Briana Cole is a published author and young emerging actress. The Atlanta native is a proud mother of two. Her motto and ultimate drive towards success is a famous quote from Mae West: “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”

“When I write novels, I am bringing moments to life through my character development, plots and narrative flow. When I am acting (whether in film or theater), I am bringing someone else’s characters to life through my physical actions, my performance. In both mediums, I am on a journey, pursuing what I enjoy while learning and applying my knowledge and experiences along the way.”

A dual creative, Briana Cole, known as the “lit drama queen’ is a featured new voice with Dafina/Kensington and an actress appearing in the upcoming season of TV One’s docu-series, Fatal Attraction. Here she offers some tips to those with acting aspirations, who are just getting their feet wet.

Develop additional skills. Take a dance class, learn to speak another language, learn to ride a motor vehicle. All of these special skills will certainly set you apart and looks great on your acting resume. I signed up for a Combat and Weapons Training for Actors class where we will learn basic hand-to-hand combat (slaps, punches, etc) as well as weapon handling (how to draw/hold a gun, etc). This type of training gives me a significant advantage over other actors.

Invest in a Professional Head shot. Even your best selfie won’t land you the audition. Nothing screams unprofessional more than an unfocused photo, selfie, or group photo where you have cropped your friends out. Do some research and find a cost-effective photographer in your area that specializes in head shot photography. Often times, students are more than willing to assist because they are looking to build up their own portfolio. Acting is a very competitive industry and when directors are getting inundated with submissions for their roles, they are weeding through quickly. If a casting director doesn’t think you’re serious enough to invest in your career with a professional photo, they will find someone else.

Master your video audition. Video auditions are recorded auditions which can really expand your opportunities. Typically, the casting director sends you instructions on creating and submitting the footage, along with your lines (or sides). You can either self-tape at home or in a professional studio. However, make sure you have good lighting, a good quality camera, your lines memorized, and a reader, or someone off-camera to read any other lines from the script, if necessary. This allows for you to remain in character while acting and reacting in the entire scene. I booked the lead role for TV One’s Fatal Attraction solely off of my video audition.

Be determined not desperate. The acting and modeling industry is a prime breeding ground for scammers. Don’t be so eager to “make it” that you find yourself conned out of money or worse, in some kind of danger. The age-old slogan still holds true: If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

Network with actors, specifically. The value of networking with other actors comes in handy and can help weed out scams.  At the end of the day, our journeys are all different and you can very well pull a Pamela Anderson and end up discovered without a single head shot or acting class. However, it’s good to adequately equip yourself. Above all, believe in yourself and keep pursuing your passion because you have something that needs to be shared.

A Few Quotes from Panel Discussions

#BlackGirlMagic

Don’t take no for an answer. Believe in yourself and have your own personal value—that’s how you will last in this industry for a long time.” – EnVogue

“To have black girl magic, it’s really recognizing that magic that’s in yourself first.” – Naturi Naughton

“Don’t let the brown [skin], don’t let the dark eyes, don’t let the natural hair stop you.” – Bernice Holmes

State of Black America: How to Make Our Voices Heard in this Political Climate

“None of us would have existed had it not been the backbone of our black women. Black women stood up and brought us back every time. We have got to be involved. We have to be sensitive to where we are—where we are with our voting rights, where we are with health care, where we are with gender rights?”  – Al Sharpton

“When I first began, my main objective was to just be good at rapping … but as time goes by, you start to realize that people are actually listening to you and you have things you want to say outside of music.” – Remy Ma

“It’s not easy. There’s not a short-term solution to handle things. You have to get into the trenches, you have to raise your voice as loud as you can even if sometimes you don’t understand what you’re fighting.” – Ashley G. Sharpton

Dating, Marriage, Love & The Internet: How to Make it All Work

“There’s too much of a stigma put on how you meet a person. God may use online dating more than he may use the church to bring you the right person because people can hide in church … find the person, however God brings them to you.” DeVon Franklin

“The worst mistake you can make is to get married before you know yourself.” Charreah K. Jackson

“The most important thing [about online dating] is honesty. You have to be honest” Kenya Moore

Living in The Gospel

“Let’s stop talking about what God can do and walk in what you can do. We should come to the table with everything he’s given us and let’s challenge each other in the church, so that we can use our skills, our talents for God to multiply that through obedience.” Dr. Stacie NC Grant

“We have to forgive debts for our debts to be forgiven. That’s the only way.” Brian Courtney Wilson

“You have to have time for God” Maranda Curtis

Mom Holds Dying 10-Year-Old Girl Shot on Way to Ice Cream Truck: ‘Please Don’t Let My Baby Die’

Makiyah Wilson
Makiyah Wilson

On Monday evening, Makiyah Wilson left the courtyard of the Clay Terrace Apartments in Washington D.C., heading to an ice cream truck for a summertime treat.

But the 10-year-old never got her ice cream. As she headed towards the truck, a black Infiniti drove up. Four masked men emerged from the vehicle and began shooting seemingly indiscriminately, sending onlookers scrambling to safety. Police say at least 60 shots were fired, according to multiple reports.

One of the bullets hit Makiyah in the chest. As she lay on the ground, her mother held her daughter and screamed “Please don’t let my baby die,” the Washington Post reports.

Makiyah was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Three other victims — Makiyah’s 18-year-old sister and three other men — were wounded but are expected to survive.

Police are searching for the shooters, and have not yet determined a motive.

On Wednesday morning, police found the black Infiniti they believe is connected to the killing abandoned in Prince George’s County.

D.C. Metropolitan Police have offered a $25,000 reward for information on the shooting.

While authorities try to figure out who shot the girl, her family is left mourning the 4th grader who was known for her smile, her love of sports and her intelligence.

“Makiyah, she was special,” her grandmother, Pandora Wilson told NBC Washington. “She loved football; she loved all kinds of sports. It’s so hard to put it in words because it don’t feel real, you know? It’s so senseless.”

Her mother, Donnetta Wilson, cried as she told the Washington Post about her daughter. “She was an amazing little girl, an outstanding, bright 10-year-old,” she said. “I just miss my daughter. She wanted to conquer the world.”
