Children Playing in the Woods Find Body of Missing Teacher After Her Suicide

A missing elementary school teacher in Maine who vanished from her home early last week was found dead on Friday afternoon after killing herself.

Children who were playing in the woods near the home of Kristin Westra discovered her remains, according to authorities.

An autopsy performed over the weekend determined Westra, 47, died by suicide, according to a statement from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The body of the mother of two, who disappeared overnight from her home late on Sept. 30 or early Oct. 1, was located deep in the woods behind her house in North Yarmouth.

According to her husband, Jay Westra, he and Kristin went to bed about 8 p.m. on Sunday. But Kristin, a teacher at Chebeague Island School, was gone when Jay awoke on Monday — leaving behind her phone, car and keys. Jay reported her missing soon after.

Authorities had been searching for Kristin ever since, using drones and a number of canine units.

Kristin’s relatives reportedly said that she was dealing with some anxiety and stress before going missing, but, “the thought of her doing this to her family is completely out of the norm,” her brother, Eric Rohrbach, told ABC News.

Sears is Preparing To File Bankruptcy

Hedgie Eddie Lampert may be preparing to cut his losses on Sears Holdings just prior to a huge debt payment due next week.

The long-troubled iconic retailer has been working with M-III Partners to prepare what may appear to be a prepackaged bankruptcy filing that could come as soon as this week, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

M-III Partners has been working the past couple of weeks at Sears Holdings’ headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Ill., people familiar with the situation told the Journal.

Sears has a $134 million debt payment due this coming Monday and it doesn’t look like they will be able to pay the debt.

Lampert — Sears’ and Kmart’s chairman, chief executive, largest shareholder and biggest creditor — is reportedly looking for a larger restructuring than just anteing up more cash to bail out the cash-strapped retailers.

The hedge-fund billionaire is looking to cut more than $1 billion from Sears’ $5.5 billion debt, unload another $1.5 billion worth of real estate and sell $1.75 billion in assets, including the Kenmore appliance brand, according to the Journal report.

On Tuesday, Sears brought in corporate-restructuring pro Alan Carr as a director.

He currently runs a restructuring-advisory firm and previously worked as a restructuring lawyer at Skadden, Arps, according to the report.

Sears and Kmart have lost more than $11 billion since 2011, and their annual sales have dropped nearly 60 percent in that period to $16.7 billion, according to the report.

Sears, once the world’s largest retailer, has struggled in the face of declining foot traffic in its stores.

Starbucks To Kick in For Babysitting While Baristas Serve Coffee!

Starbucks Corp. will now offer subsidized childcare for all of its U.S. employees. The new benefit, a partnership with childcare provider Care.com Inc., will provide 10 subsidized backup daycare days for parents for instances when regular care falls through. In-home backup childcare will cost $1 an hour or $2 an hour after the 4th child. Care at a daycare center will cost $5 per day.

“We felt like it was important to make this accessible,” said Ron Crawford, vice president of benefits at Starbucks. “We wanted to have as low a possible cost.” Unlike some of Starbucks’s other benefits, which require employees to work 20 hours before they can access them, Care@Work is available to more than 180,000 U.S. employees, regardless of how much they work.

This is awesome because parents pay almost as much for childcare as they do for rent, and when it falls through or there’s an unexpected day off from school or daycare, a parent either has to stay home or scramble to find a solution that may result in having to quit the job due to inconvenience. Subsidized childcare is a rare benefit. Only 2 percent of more than 3,000 employers surveyed by the Society of Human Resource Management in 2018 say they help employees pay for childcare fees. Only 4 percent offer backup child care services. All companies should offer help with childcare or even offer an onsite daycare service. With the way society is moving and more families working, its best companies go ahead and invest more into the job security of their employees by helping them to stay at work.

Retailers and restaurants have been trying to improve their perks to retain employees amid a very tight labor market. Amazon.com Inc. just announced it’s boosting wages to $15 an hour in November for its current and seasonal workers. In January, Starbucks committed to spend $250 million on new employee benefits, including a pay boost for domestic workers after the federal tax overhaul.

Michelle Obama Launches Voter Registration Campaign with Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda & Janelle Monae

Former First Lady Michelle Obama and some other famous friends will launch a new voter registration nonprofit called When We All Vote.

In addition to the Hamilton creator and the first lady, the co-chairs of the national nonpartisan organization include actor Tom Hanks, country music stars (and spouses) Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, basketball player Chris Paul and singer-songwriter Janelle Monáe.

Through extensive social media and digital outreach, the national organization aims to increase the number of eligible citizens who register to vote and who actually show up to the polls on election day.

The launch video shows Obama and Miranda personally making voter registration calls, reminding the other co-chairs to vote in every election, “school board, state house, all of them,” Obama instructs.

“Voting is the only way to ensure that our values and priorities are represented in the halls of power,” Obama says in a statement in When We All Vote’s press release. “And it’s not enough to just vote for president every four years. We all have to vote in every single election: for mayor, governor, school board, state legislature and Congress. The leaders we elect to these offices help determine just about every aspect of our lives and our democracy. So the future of our families, our communities and our country belongs to those of us who show up, cast our votes, and make our voices heard.”

When We All Vote aims to increase voter registration rates in all 50 states hoping to make waves in a political landscape where registration rates are low. In 2014, more than 1/5th of eligible American citizens were not registered to vote, according to the Pew Charitable Trusts research cited in the press release.

When We All Vote is embracing a three-pronged strategy to achieve its registration and participation oriented goals: volunteer recruitment; improved voter registration processes; and increased conversation across the United States. This approach will involve recruiting on-the-ground people and organizations in all 50 states, and extensive social media and digital outreach. When We All Vote is also partnering with corporate, education and civic institutions to reach voters nationwide, according to the press release.

“Voting is a small act that proves that we are a democracy a government of the people and by the people. It’s up to each and every one of us to make sure our government doesn’t just represent a small some not just the most powerful but all of us. When we all vote, we are making strides toward a more perfect union,” Hanks says in a statement.

Monáe adds in a statement, “It’s gonna be our generation that corrects the mistakes of our past and creates a more inclusive future that works for us all. As voters, we are the ones that hold the power to make this dream a reality.”

Mom Holds Dying 10-Year-Old Girl Shot on Way to Ice Cream Truck: ‘Please Don’t Let My Baby Die’

On Monday evening, Makiyah Wilson left the courtyard of the Clay Terrace Apartments in Washington D.C., heading to an ice cream truck for a summertime treat.

But the 10-year-old never got her ice cream. As she headed towards the truck, a black Infiniti drove up. Four masked men emerged from the vehicle and began shooting seemingly indiscriminately, sending onlookers scrambling to safety. Police say at least 60 shots were fired, according to multiple reports.

One of the bullets hit Makiyah in the chest. As she lay on the ground, her mother held her daughter and screamed “Please don’t let my baby die,” the Washington Post reports.

Makiyah was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Three other victims — Makiyah’s 18-year-old sister and three other men — were wounded but are expected to survive.

Police are searching for the shooters, and have not yet determined a motive.

On Wednesday morning, police found the black Infiniti they believe is connected to the killing abandoned in Prince George’s County.

D.C. Metropolitan Police have offered a $25,000 reward for information on the shooting.

While authorities try to figure out who shot the girl, her family is left mourning the 4th grader who was known for her smile, her love of sports and her intelligence.

“Makiyah, she was special,” her grandmother, Pandora Wilson told NBC Washington. “She loved football; she loved all kinds of sports. It’s so hard to put it in words because it don’t feel real, you know? It’s so senseless.”

Her mother, Donnetta Wilson, cried as she told the Washington Post about her daughter. “She was an amazing little girl, an outstanding, bright 10-year-old,” she said. “I just miss my daughter. She wanted to conquer the world.”

Meghan Markle Finds Certain Royal Rules ‘Difficult to Understand,’ Says Source

Meghan Markle has found certain rules a bit frustrating!

Although she has quickly adapted to many of the minutiae of royal dos and don’ts, she “has found certain rules in the royal household difficult to understand, like the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way,” a source tells PEOPLE.

“I think she finds it a little frustrating at times, but this is her new life, and she has to deal with it,” the source adds.

Stepping into an entirely new world has also brought a new set of challenges. The outspoken former actress, who includes a reference to being a “feminist” on her page on the official British monarchy website, landed in the headlines after a July 10 garden party at the British ambassador’s residence in Dublin, when Senator Catherine Noone tweeted that Meghan had said she was “pleased to see the result” of Ireland’s recent referendum to legalize abortion. (Royal family members typically steer clear of political discussions, and Noone subsequently deleted the tweet.)

“That’s an example of her naïveté,” says Crown historical consultant and royal biographer Robert Lacey. “Within the royal family they talk freely, and everyone knows the rules. She’s learning the hard way that you can’t trust anyone outside the narrow circle.”

Of course, she has her new husband by her side to help show her the royal ropes along with the Queen’s former assistant private secretary, Samantha Cohen, who has been helping her with protocol.

Living in royalty definitely sounds like work!

A South Dakota mother, who beat her 2-year-old son to death after he wet the bed, was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Tuesday.

Katrina Shangreaux pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for beating her son, Kylen Shangreaux, to death two years ago, according to the Rapid City Journal.

Shangreaux, 30, told investigators she had hit Kylen with a studded belt, threw him on the ground, kicked him in the stomach and head and bit him several times, the newspaper reported.

Kylen had 111 external injuries with about 70 percent of his body covered in bruises, according to the outlet. He had broken ribs and had bleeding on the brain and also in his abdomen and had severe injuries to his groin. She did not call 911 until three hours after his death.

Shangreaux’s mother, Sonya Dubray, allegedly helped her cover up the crime scene and clean up Kylen’s body, according to the Associated Press.

CBS News reports Dubray allegedly also cleaned Kylen’s clothes and misled investigators about the alleged abuse he received at the hands of his mother.

Dubray pleaded guilty to being an accessory and hindering the investigation, the outlet reported.

Kylen’s paternal relatives, including his aunt Angie Shangreaux, had taken care of him for a year until Katrina regained custody of him, the Rapid City Journal reported.

Angie addressed the court on Tuesday, asking the judge to give her a life sentence.

“You’re the last person who can give Kylen the justice he deserves,” Angie said. “I’m begging for what would be a lifelong sentence for her.”

The outlet reported she turned toward Kylen’s mother and said, “I hate you. I will never forgive you. You deserve hell.”

Kylen’s father is serving time in prison for abuse and neglect of another son with a different woman, according to the AP.

This is just sad and some people just are down right evil!

Racism Strikes At A Waffle House In Saraland, Alabama! A Black Female Was Slammed To The Floor By White Cops After Asking For Plastic Utensils!

A very disturbing video went viral over social media on Saturday night as a video of a young black female was shown being slammed to the floor and dragged out of her clothes across a Waffle House floor in Saraland, Alabama. The young lady had asked an employee by the name of ‘Goldie’ if she could simply have plastic utensils. After being told by the employee that they charge ’50 cents” for customers to receive plastic utensils, the young lady began to inquire reasons for why she was being charged after stating she had never been charged before, and simply asked for the corporate number to report it.

Waffle House - Saraland, AL
Waffle House, 1204 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, AL 36571

The racist Waffle House employee then proceeded to call the Saraland Police Department out. The young lady who was seen sitting down and not bothering anyone was telling the white male officer while sitting in a chair by the window, “We haven’t did nothing”.

The white male officer as seen in the video is shown tugging on the young lady being referred to in the video as “Ke-Ke” while she is peacefully sitting still and not showing any signs of causing conflict to the officer or anyone else.

It is very important to know your rights, if you think a cop is doing something wrong to you, you can get in more trouble if you try to resist or fight back.  It’s usually a good idea to stay calm which you can see in the video she was simply sitting down and being calm.

The behavior of these officers was completely inappropriate! These officers had this innocent young woman fully exposed!

There was no respect shown to this woman!

Take a look at the video below!

She was slammed to the floor and told she would be arrested, but for what??? All of this over her asking for plastic utensils! We have to ask ourselves would this have happened to a white person?

Is this how Waffle House treats people who spend their money with them? Are we not free to ask Waffle House employees like “Goldie” for plastic utensils without white cops coming and slamming us to the floor and revealing us to the world as if we are not even human or worthy of respect?!

At no point was the Waffle House employee threatened for her life over plastic utensils to the point where police officers had to come out and treat this young lady the way they did. This is absolutely unacceptable from the Saraland Police Department! There was a better way to handle the situation and they failed to do so. The duty of officers are to protect citizens and they go through training to learn how to handle and meet the needs of those in the community. Had these officers utilized very simple communication skills this situation could have been better handled.

The community is in an outrage and requesting that the Waffle House employee be fired and that the officers involved receive some type of penalty for what they did to the young lady. A peaceful protest was held today at the Waffle House in Saraland, Alabama located at, 1204 Industrial Pkwy, Saraland, AL 36571 where the incident happened.

The Saraland Police Department was called out again to what was simply a peaceful protest!

Check out the Facebook live video from one of the community leaders James, who participated in the peaceful protest along with a few others. He is part of the “Bigg Yow & J-45 Live Morning Show Podcast” in Mobile, Alabama which stays active with discussing what’s going on in the community.

A reporter with one of the local news station, WKRG News so far has been the only media present at the scene concerning this matter.

Watch the video below!

The community wants answers and we want to know what is going to happen following this horrible mistreatment to the young lady.

Where is the mayor of Saraland, Alabama? Is this what Saraland Police Department represents?

Is Saraland, Alabama another city willing to support racism and more importantly is Waffle House supporting racism? If Waffle House will not stand up against this employee just as Starbucks recently did then do we really want to continue giving them any business?!

We will keep you updated about this story as it unfolds.

JAMALL ANDERSON RE-RELEASES CONTROVERSIAL NCAA GAMBLING BOOK

College Football Star Releases Video and Book of the Biggest NCAA Scandal “The Best Bet”

TAMPA, FL – It is known as the biggest scandal in NCAA football history! The Best Bet is the memoir of Jamall Anderson who reveals how his once rising career was cut short by gambling on games and even betting against his own teammates. This exclusive account is the first the world has heard of the roles that he and other teammates played in the biggest gambling scandal in the history of NCAA College Football.

Co-written by Tampa Bay Times columnist Ernest Hooper, The Best Bet details how Jamall’s decisions at Boston College set off a chain of events that put him in a downward spiral of confusion and manipulation and eventually caused him to miss out on his future in professional football.

In 2017, twenty years after the scandal broke, a video surfaced on TMZ Sports of Jamall and ex-teammates having an X-rated party in the dorms at Boston College in 1996. The video showed football players taking part in underaged drinking with High School recruits and several naked strippers. This video included an exclusive interview with Jamall on TMZ where he warned today’s athletes not to make the same mistake he made.

This video was released to support Jamall Anderson’s book, ‘The Best Bet‘.

The Best Bet by [Anderson, Jamall, Hooper, Ernest]

Another recent surprise is that the logo of the book is starting to be used to support Colin Kaepernick’s stance regarding the national anthem. The cover of The Best Bet was released in 2016 of a football player kneeling and some are using it to support their viewpoint about our country and the sport of football. Although Jamall finds the use of his logo flattering he does point out that Kaepernick’s use is for protest and his use of the logo is to represent prayer, which is how Jamall has coped with his situation.

Today, Jamall spends his days speaking to aspiring athletes warning of his cautionary tale and encourages them to heed the warnings of their parents and coaches. He’s goal is to seek retribution through contribution. He reveals his own failures and the seamy underside of college football that revolves around illegal wages, criminal mischief, and using prostitutes to help recruit high school athletes.

Jamall is currently working on his own merchandise line and the book has been re-released on Amazon! Click Here to order!
