“I’ve learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom.”- Soledad O’Brien.

Imagine a journey of pain, struggle, fear, humility and faith. Sammie’s new album takes us down a sensual path of his life through a combination of heartfelt vocal’s and pulsating escapades. To say that he is making a return to R&B is an understatement. Sammie has been creating and releasing music under his own label, Star Camp Music as an independent artist, for a while now.

Despite some shaky moments in his career, Sammie has remained solid in an industry that can either make you or break you as an artist.  With every journey comes the strongest tests of faith, and “Coming of Age” depicts the life of a young boy evolving into a man through love and life experiences.

Through his music on the new album, we evolve with him. In 2006 when Sammie returned to the scene with his single, “Come With Me”, the world was drawn back towards the Sammie we had missed and grew to love. Now in 2017, we are not only “coming with him” but coming into age with him.

His growth and journey through life and music is phenomenal!

The first track on the album titled, “COA” showcases the most emotional but heartfelt display of love and change. Sammie sings, “What if I told you I changed…would you want me back?”.  The song reaches out into your soul to explain the coming of growth and a plea to allow another opportunity.

How many ladies would open your heart back up to a man who displays growth and change not only in words but through actions? Listening to this song is a reflection of just how powerful Sammie is with his vocals and creativity! He has the gift to transition words into a visual image within your mind, and that within itself is an art form that vocalists strive to obtain.

                                        The entire album is amazing!

Evolution is beautiful when you see an artist survive some of the toughest parts of his career. Yet to know the struggle is to love the growth, and we definitely see growth in him. The fans, to include myself who kept following are beyond excited for him with the much deserved recognition for his music this year. For those who know, back in 2009 Sammie went through a rough period with previous management and more, so to be at this height in his music career as an independent artist is nothing short of a blessing.

My favorite track among many on the album is, “Be Alone” and even though I’m sure women all over find it hard to believe Sammie could be alone, the track speaks volumes. A very attractive, charming man in the entertainment industry who can sing like Sammie with no auto-tune is captivating. Yet it comes with a lot of stress and curiosity as to whether the ladies are into you or just into your fame. So despite being able to easily get girls, he expresses that he’s tired of the same stuff, and the fear of possibly being alone because of it all. With growth comes the knowledge that a man needs more than just pretty women parading after him, but also a stable and loyal woman who can wither the storm with him. A woman who understands his status and yet seeks to add and not take from his light.

While Sammie often states that he is not trying to be the “Prince of R&B” but merely a savior to the love for R&B music that has faded over the years, many who are fans are just happy that he remained himself through everything that was meant to break him.

Sometimes while trying to save others…we save ourselves and that’s the start of something amazing.

In the midst of creating music, Sammie is not only bringing us on his life journey vocally but visually as well. A documentary of his story is set to release soon.

So if you haven’t got your copy of his new album then my question to you is, What are you waiting for?
