‘Black Panther’ Actor Winston Duke Set To Play Kimbo Slice in Biopic

‘Black Panther’ breakout star Winston Duke is set to take on the role of MMA legend Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in ‘Backyard Legend.’

via Deadline:

White Boy Rick scribe Andy Weiss is writing the screenplay about the Bahamian-born backyard brawler who rose from homelessness to mixed martial arts fame after his brutal backyard fights drew a huge YouTube audience. Kimbo Slice died suddenly in June 2016 at 42 from heart failure and a liver mass. Though he battled high blood pressure for years, Kimbo Slice insisted on boxing months before his death, winning a three-round heavyweight match against Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris at Bellator 149 in Houston. Before dying Kimbo Slice was scheduled to fight James Thompson in the main event Bellator 158 despite his family’s mixed emotions. They knew his health was ailing given his lack of energy in the Dada 5000 fight.

Duke and Michael Imber, Kimbo’s longtime friend, manager and employer, who will be prominently depicted in the picture (the role has yet to be cast), will also serve as EPs.

Jones says, “It’s a rich and layered tale about this man’s incredible journey from a poor neighborhood in Miami to becoming a worldwide phenomenon. We are ecstatic that Winston has decided to take on this both physically and emotionally challenging role. We simply could not find a better Kimbo!”

Duke adds “I’m looking forward to exploring Kimbo’s story and interrogating the expectations society places on men like him who are their own special breed of hero.”

Jones produced George Gallo’s latest movie Bigger, which Andy Weiss also co-penned, about fitness gurus the Weider brothers. Jones is also producing Gallo’s upcoming political thriller Covet.

Winston truly fits the part for the role!

XXXTentacion Reportedly Signed a $10 Million Record Deal Weeks Before He Was Killed

According to the New York Times, slain rapper XXXTentacion signed a $10 million contract with independent music company Empire Distribution.

via NYDN:

Empire founder Ghazi Shami wouldn’t confirm the financials to the Times, but said that “a significant amount of material” for XXXTentacion’s third album has already been recorded. That music, however, likely won’t be heard until at least October, due to a previous contract.

The controversial rapper released “17,” his debut album, in August 2017, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200. His follow-up, “?,” debuted at No. 1 on the top 200 this past March.

In May, Spotify announced that it would stop promoting XXXTentacion’s music, citing its Hate Content and Hateful Conduct policy; the rapper’s lengthy rap sheet includes robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and aggravated battery of his pregnant girlfriend.

The music service eventually reinstated the problematic performer’s music on its playlists and XXXTentacion broke Taylor Swift’s single-day streaming record the day after he was shot and killed at a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Fla.

In late June, 22-year-old Dedrick Devonshay Williams pleaded not guilty to charges including the first-degree murder of the rapper. Two other suspects are reportedly still being eyed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Fox’s ‘REL’ Starring Lil Rel Howery Proves To Be One Of the Funniest Shows Coming To TV this Fall

Image result for foxs rel

The latest new addition to Fox’s schedule coming up this Fall is “REL”, a comedy series starring Lil Rel Howery, from Jerrod Carmichael, Mike Scully and 20th Century Fox TV. Rel, also co-stars Sinbad as his dad. Written and executive produced by Josh Rabinowitz, Kevin Barnett, Howery and directed by Gerry Cohen, Rel was inspired by Howery’s life. It centers on Lil Rel, a prideful, self-made success who lives by the code to “always believe in yourself and great things will come.” That mindset is soon put to the test when he learns his wife is having an affair with his own barber. He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the West Side of Chicago on a quest for love, respect, and of course, a new barber.

Jessica “Jess Hilarious” Moore and Jordan L. Jones also co-star in the series along with special appearances by comedian DC Young Fly.

On Saturday, July 7th in New Orleans, during the 2018 Essence Festival weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a private advanced screening of the Fox television series along with watching a discussion of the show which was moderated by The Daily Show’s Roy Wood Jr.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

After watching the first peek at an episode of the show, I must say that it was hard to hold back the laughs! This show was not just touching on serious matters that men or women may experience after going through a divorce, but it displayed a positive way of how you could make the most out of any situation with a few laughs.

The creativity behind the show was truly amazing and definitely one of those shows that you want to make sure you don’t leave the couch for the sake of missing something else hilariously happening. Seriously, you have to have all your snacks on deck and bathroom breaks out the way before sitting down to watch this show!

The room was packed all the way up to the balcony for the private screening of the new comedy sitcom. The room would only remain silent for a brief few seconds before you were surrounded by outbursts of laughter while watching the show.

I’m also super excited to see the legendary comedian Sinbad part of the cast and also to have seen comedians who have made their rise from social media platforms like “Jess Hilarious” and DC Young Fly on the show. There was never a dull moment while watching the show and I’m so excited to see a show with so much humor and creativity like this coming to television! I left the event ready to see more from the producers and cast behind this sitcom!

Former ‘Family Matters’ star Darius McCrary is going through a bit of a financial hardship — at least according to court documents.

According to documents filed in Los Angeles County, a proposed child support order for McCrary is requiring him to pay Tammy Brawner, the mother of his two-year-old daughter Zoey, just $29 per month in child support.

via The Blast:

The man who once played the lovable Eddie Winslow most recently appeared on seven episodes of Lee Daniels’ TV show, “Star,” but apparently has not worked since.

He previously told the court that he was having a hard time finding work and wasn’t even able to afford the required visitation monitor to see his child. Brawner and McCrary have previously filed restraining orders against each other in what has turned out to be a volatile breakup.

Darius McCrary’s required $29 per month payment is based off his reported income of $462 per month.  The county noted it applied a “low-income adjustment” to cut him a break.

However, the actor is also required to pay for 50% of Zoey’s health and medical costs. He has a chance to oppose the proposed order from the county which was scheduled to become active June 1.

According to his IMDB, McCrary has a role in a film called “Way Out of Bounds,” which is due out next year. It’s unclear if the payment from that film will affect his child support obligations.

Watch: Tiffany Haddish, Tika Sumpter and Whoopi Goldberg Star in Tyler Perry’s ‘Nobody’s Fool’ [Video]

Tiffany Haddish’s career has been non-stop since last year’s ‘Girl’s Trip,’ and now the actress is back with yet another film.

She’s starring alongside Tika Sumpter and Whoopi Goldberg in Tyler Perry’s Nobody’s Fool.

via Complex:

In the trailer for the Tyler Perry written/directed film, Haddish plays the wild, reckless sister of Southside with You breakout star Tika Sumpter. Sumpter’s character Danica helps Haddish’s Tanya get back on her feet after a stint in jail. “Out of jail, free at last, free at last, I’mma go out there and shake my ass,” Haddish sings in the trailer.

On the outside, Danica’s successful and bougie lifestyle seems like the perfect opposite of Tanya’s. But when Tanya finds out her sister is being catfished by a potential love interest, she attempts to help Danica out at any cost. We see Tanya threatening to put a hit on the scammer, crashing a wedding, and agitating her new boss played by Omari Hardwick. Oh, and Whoopi Goldberg plays their mom.

Nobody’s Fool hits theaters Nov. 2. Check out the trailer below.
